ROME STAKE GROWTH

Dear Elders, Sisters, and Friends of Italy,


We have received some wonderful news! Last Sunday the Rome Stake continued its path of growth and strengthening.  The Terni Branch became the Terni Ward with Giovanni Consoli being selected by the Lord as the Bishop and Mark Urban and Paolo Petrolini as his counselors.  The Rome 2 Ward was divided and a new Rome 5 Branch created which will include the areas north of the Raccordo, but still near Rome. The new branch president is Massimo Criscione with Jonathan Gessati and Alessandro Canzachi as counselors.


Bishop Giulio Celestini has remained as Bishop of the Rome 2 Ward with counselors Daniele Salerno and Gabriele Teodosi. It is great to see these well prepared and young leaders. With wisdom the Stake leaders have followed the inspiration of the Lord and allowed these younger priesthood holders to receive in-service training on the High Council, in Elders Quorum Presidencies, on full-time missions, in Bishoprics, etc. so that they are now well seasoned and able to serve in these expanded roles. The Lord has confirmed that preparation in extending these calls to them. Our prayers are with each of these newly called leaders as well as with the work as a whole.


With Ladispoli and Terni now wards, we can pray that all the units continue to grow in numbers and strength and that the new Rome 5 Branch will quickly grow to become a ward. We also pray that the members can continue to remain faithful and the economy such that additional chapels can be approved for construction throughout the stake.


The governmental approval of the Church as a religion (the Intesa process) has also taken a significant step forward. While there are a couple of required additional steps, final approval could come as early as a month or two from now. One more opportunity for our prayers and the inclusion in our fast for July 2012.


Again, we feel extremely humble and grateful to see the Lord’s hand so evident in this part of His vineyard. We are confident that it is likewise being manifest throughout the other parts of the now expanded Rome Mission, throughout all of Italy, and throughout the world. However these specifics give us reason to pause and express our gratitude once again for being alive in these times of the Restoration when the Lord’s work is hastening and its progress is ever more clearly visible in a land that we all love.


With regards to the temple, we hope you have been able to see the many construction pictures that are posted on the Internet. The progress is significant. We are grateful that so far there have not been any obstacles and hope this continues to be the case. We have not heard of any official dates for either the open house or the dedication but imagine it will be in the summer or late spring of 2014. We will make our reservations once we hear something official.


Sister Pacini and I also wish to once again thank each of you for your respective mission contributions. We are confident that each gave their very best and hope that you do not evaluate your mission experience against that of others or against a now more mature perspective on life. Doing your best was all that Father expected, or expects, of us. So thank you once again for your dedicated service – the lives you touched – and the difference you made! But remember, in encouraging those with whom you developed friendships during your mission (especially should they have become distracted and lost their way in the interim) through any form of communication can “allow your mission to continue.” Allowing members and non-members to hear of your blessings from living the Gospel will continue to strengthen them. Also, continuing to live a righteous life now and sharing the Gospel message with friends and family members wherever you find yourself will reinforce those blessings that we all look back upon as a result of our full-time service in Italy.


While it was our intent to share just the news of these wonderful events, I feel that I should share an experience from my first mission. Maybe it will be of benefit to only one of you receiving this update, but evidently I am to share it none the less. While some of you may have already heard this story, most will not have. In the early 1990s we had a friend who served in a BYU Student Bishopric. He contacted us and indicated that one Sunday he had interviewed a new ward member that was from Italy. He asked her about her family and conversion. She indicated that all were members of the Church, but that they had only joined the Church a year or so before. Then she added, “however my parents told me about an Elder Pacini that had come to our home and told us about the importance of the family and had shared a family home evening with them. They never forgot how they felt.” When missionaries came by their home over 15 years later, they were ready to accept the message that was originally presented to them. While this gave me a great feeling of gratitude when I heard it, it also prompts me to remind each of you of the opportunity you still have. Pray often for those you contacted during your mission service. Pray that they will be able to remember how they felt as you shared your message of salvation with them. Pray that they will seek out the missionaries or at least be receptive when they are contacted again. Pray that as the trials of life come upon them that they might remember the hope that you offered them as you sought to teach them the principles of the Gospel. Remember that part of President Lorenzo Snow’s dedicatory prayer – “From the lifting up of this ensign may a voice go forth among the people of these mountains and valleys, and throughout the length and breadth of this land, and may it go forth and be unto thine elect, as the voice of the Lord, that the Holy Spirit may fall upon them, imparting knowledge in dreams and visions concerning this hour of their redemption. As the report of us, Thy servants, shall spread abroad, may it awaken feelings of anxiety with the honest to learn of Thy doings, and to seek speedily the path of knowledge.” As we pray for those former contacts, even that they will be prompted by dreams and visions, we can rest assured that the Lord will honor our request as it is only being consistent with what He has already prophesied will happen in Italy through His servant, President Snow.

Cari Anziani, Sorelle, e amici d’Italia!


Abbiamo ricevuto delle buone notizie le quali vogliamo condividere. Domenica scorsa, il Palo di Roma ha continuato la sua crescita e rafforzamento. Il ramo di Terni adesso e’ il Rione di Terni con Giovanni Consoli scelto dal Signore come vescovo e Mark Urban e Paolo Petrolini come i suoi consiglieri. Il Rione di Roma 2 e’ stata divisa e un nuovo ramo – Roma 5 – e’ stato creato. Roma 5 includera’ la zona vicino a Roma ma al nord del Grande Raccordo Annulare (piu’ o meno). In quest’unita’, il nuovo presidente di ramo e’ Massimo Criscione con Jonathan Gessati e Alessandro Canzachi come I suoi consiglieri.


Vescovo Giulio Celestini rimane in quell incarico a Roma 2 con consiglieri Daniele Salerno e Gabriele Teodosi. E’ meraviglioso vedere questi dirigenti giovani cosi’ ben preparati. Con sagezza I dirigenti del palo hanno seguito l’ispirazione del Signore e hanno esteso chiamate a loro a servire precedentamente sul sommo consiglio, nelle presidenzie di quorum, come missionari a tempo pieno, in altri vesovati, ecc. affinche’ sono adesso ben’pronti e capaci servire in questi incarichi piu’ ampi. Il Signore ha dato la Sua confirma in merito alla preparazione di questi fratelli con l’ispirazione di estendere una chiamata ad ognuno di loro. Le nostre preghiere stanno con ognuno di questi nuovi difigenti come stanno con il palo intero.


Adesso che Ladispoli e Terni sono rioni, possiamo pregare che ogni unita’ continui a crescere in numeri e in forza e che il nuovo ramo di Roma 5 possa rapidamente diventare un rione. Preghiamo anche per I membri a continuare a rimanere fedeli e per un’economia migliore affinche’ altre cappelle possano essere approvate per costruzione in tutte le parti del palo.


La questione davanti il governo della republica a stabilire la Chiesa come chiesa, invece di ente patrimoniale (il processo dell’Intesa), ha fatto un altro passo molto importante di recente. Anche se ci sono altri passi da fare, un’approvazione finale potrebbe arrivare entro un paio di mesi. Un’altra opportunita’ per le nostre preghiere e inclusion nel nostro digiuno per Luglio 2012.


Di nuovo, sentiamo molto umile e ne siamo grati vedere il mano del Signore cosi’ evidente in questa parte della sua vigna. Ne sappiamo che sia anche manifesto nelle altri parti della missione (ora piu’ grande) di Roma, attraverso tutto l’Italia, e nel mondo. Pero’ questi eventi specifici ci danno un motivo di esprimere la nostra gratitudine una volta in piu’ per la benedizione di essere vivi in questi tempi della Restaurazione quando il lavoro del Signore va avanti con sempre piu’ velocita’ e il Suo lavoro vediamo sempre piu’ chiaro nella terra che ognuno di noi ama cosi’ tanto.


In merito al tempio, come spero che avete visto sul Internet attraverso le foto di costruzione, c’e’ anche un progresso notevole. E non sembra che ci siano presentati deglio ostacoli fin’ora. Non abbiamo sentito niente di ufficiale in merito alla dedicazione, ma crediamo che sara’ in 2014 forse verso estate o fine di primavera. Faremo I nostril piani una volta che sentiamo qualcosa ufficiale.


Sorella Pacini ed io desideriamo esprimere di nuovo la nostro gratitudine ad ognuno di voi per le vostre contribuzioni durante il periodo della vostra missione. Ne siamo sicuri che avete dato il vostro “tutto” personale e speriamo che non valutate la vostra esperienza di missione nei confronti delle esperienze di altri missionari o nei confronti della vostra conoscenza piu’ ampia di oggi. Facendo il vostro meglio era solo cio’ che il Padre vi ha chiamti a fare, o che ci chiede di fare oggi. Quindi, grazie di nuovo per il vostro servizio, per le vite che avete toccati per bene, e per le vostre contribuzioni personali. Ricordatevi pero’ che la vostra missione possa continuare anche oggi se ne volete. Potete incoraggiare tutti quelli con la quali che avete creato amicizie (especialmente fratelli che forse sono rimasti un po’ perduti per la strada di vita nei confronti del Vangelo) con qualsiasi tipo di communicazione. Quando condividete con I membri e con quelli che diventerano membri le benedizioni che avete ricevuto fin’ora per merito del Vangelo puo’ essere utile anche per loro e a rafforzarli. Anche a continuare a vivere una vita retta oggi e nel condividere il messaggio del Vangelo con membri delle vostre famiglie e con amici possano rinovvare le benedizioni della missione che vediamo nei nostri passati che risultino in parte per merito del nostro servizio in Italia.


Mentre era solo il nostro intento condividere le belle notizie di questi eventi meravigliosi, mi sento di condividere un’esperienza dalla mia prima missione in Italia. Forse sara’ di beneficio solo a pochi di voi, ma evidentamente dovro’ condividerla lo stesso. So che alcuni di voi avete sentito questa storia ma la maggiore parte no. Nei primi anni del decennio 1990 abbiamo avuto un amico che serviva in un vescovato studentesco a BYU. Un giorno ci ha contatato dicendoci che quella domenica ha intervistato una nuova sorella nel rione che proveniva dall’Italia. Ha chiesto in merito ai suoi studi, la sua famiglia, e la sua conversione. Le ha indicato che tutta la sua famiglia erano membri della chiesa adesso, battezati da poco piu’ di un anno. Poi dopo una breve pausa ha detto che I suoi genitori hanno detto che “un Anziano Pacini e’ venuto alla loro casa a parlare della famiglia e ha condiviso una serata familiare con loro. Non hanno mai dimenticato quell’esperienza.” Quando I missionari hanno ripasato per la loro casa circa 15 anni piu’ tardi, erano pronti accettare il messaggio che e’ stato presentato precedentatmente. Anche se questo mi ha dato un sentimento profondo di gratitudine, mi spinge farvi ricordare dell’opportunita’ che ognuno di noi ha ancora. Pregate spesso per coloro che avete insegnato nel campo di missione. Pregate che si sentirano come si sono sentiti quando avete presentato I vosti messaggi originali. Pregate che loro cercherano I missionari o almeno saranno pronti ad accettare il messaggio dai missionari quando sono contatati di nuovo. Pregate che quando le prove di vita entrino nelle loro case possano riccordare la speranza che li avete offerto che era collegato ai principi del Vangelo restaurato. Ricrodatevi anche questa parte della preghiera dedicatoria di Presidente Lorenzo Snow –“Da quando questa insegna innalzata, possa una voce avanzare fra le genti di queste valli e montagne attraverso tutta questa terra, e possa spingersi verso gli eletti come la voce del Signore; che lo Spirito Santo possa riversarsi su di essi, donando la conoscenza e concedendo sogni e visioni riguardanti quest’ora della loro redenzione. Cosi’ come la voce di noi Tuoi servitori si estende ovunque, nello stesso modo possa essa stimolare sentimenti di timore negli onesti di cuore affinche’ possano conoscere la Tua volonta’, per scoprire rapidamente la strada della verita’.” Mentre preghiamo per I nostri contatti dal passato, perfino che siano insegnati con sogni e con visioni, possiamo essere tranquili che il Signore sentira’ le nostre richieste perche’ queste richieste sono consistente con cio’ che e’ stato gia’ profetizato come parte degli eventi nella storia d’Italia dal Suo servitor, Presidente Snow.


Ognuno di voi rimane sempre nelle nostre preghiere dove supplichiamo che il Signore vi benedira’ con fede, testimonianza, successo, salute, e felicita’.
