Reunion & Temple

Ciao’ missionaries & friends of Italy!

First of all, we hope you have all heard the wonderful news that many decades of fasting and prayers have been answered and the Church has now been officially recognized in Italy! If you haven’t done so already many times, we encourage you to thank the Lord one last time for His help in achieving this very important milestone (D&C 59:21). While there are obvious blessings, there is also a sense that this will provide greater visibility for the Church and create an environment where the message of the Restoration is more frequently sought out by those who are looking for it in that marvelous land!

There have also been many new photos posted on the Internet of “Piazza del Tempio” (while not an official name, it sure sounds great!!). I like the site www.ldschurchtemples.com. It is not an official Church site, but the brother that maintains it does a great job. Many of the wonderful members that we knew while in Italy have posted beautiful pictures that are in the “Construction Photos” section of the Rome Temple portion of the site. These updates occur frequently and we hope that you enjoy them if they are new to you.

We also want you to know that we WILL NOT be organizing a Missionary Reunion for our missionaries in October here in Salt Lake. The reason for our absence is that Sister Pacini will be undergoing surgery on her wind pipe on September 25th and will probably still be in the hospital when the reunion would normally be held.

For those that are not aware, here’s a quick explanation of what her situation is. In August 2008 she was in a car accident and her shoulder seat-belt damaged the inside of her wind pipe (trachea). She was in the back seat and twisted and bent over to try to protect one of our baby granddaughters once she saw that they would be hit. As her wind pipe healed, it began building scar tissue that gradually reduced her ability to breathe. She underwent surgery in March 2011 and January 2012 to provide her with more air but the surgeries did not provide a lasting effect and she is once again unable to move around much (even from the bedroom to the kitchen causes a noticeable gasping for air). While the two surgeries that she has had up till now were fairly easy to do, and do work for a small percentage of people, they did not work for her. We unfortunately now need to take the ‘next step,’ which is also more invasive, but which will hopefully be a permanent solution. In this next surgery, they will remove the section of her wind pipe where the scar tissue is and then reattach her trachea. We will be having a special fast on Sunday, September 23rd for her. If you would like to participate in the fast and/or remember her in your prayers, we would appreciate it! We will keep you all posted as to the results and when she will be back in circulation.

Even though we will not be able to organize a reunion, you are all certainly welcome to do so – wherever you live! If you do get together in one or more groups, please know of our love and appreciation for each of you. The devotion you showed, even on your most difficult days, has made an eternal difference in the lives of so many – including ours! In such gatherings it will always be appropriate to remember those that we taught who did not fully accept our message and those members that may have lost their way in the intervening years. Prayers, fasts, letters, emails, etc. in behalf of these precious souls can work miracles! We want all to be present when the temple is dedicated, hopefully in 2014. SOOO it isn’t too early to start trying to reactivate or rekindle the Gospel sparks that we saw in the lives of those that we grew to love so very much.

Even though we will be missing the reunion for a good reason, we feel badly that we will not be able to see you. I always look forward to the opportunity to tell each of you how much you mean to us and how much the Lord loves you. The reunions are also a wonderful time to remind everyone to take advantage of the conference messages which invariably provide us with the answers to our current questions as well as the encouragement to continue to be faithful. So, for those who live close, we will try to get together after the holidays. A number of “empty nester” and other groups have asked me to present some information on the Church in Italy, the temple in Rome, … in a fireside/home evening type of format. If you would be interested in such an evening drop me a note and I will arrange for a location that is big enough to accommodate the group that is interested. While not all the material will be new to you, maybe your spouse will find some of it interesting or at least see why we share such a great love for a land of such history and beauty and wonderful people.

I should also share the love of the Saints in Italy with you. While I do not speak with many of them, I do try to visit as often as possible via the computer and the telephone. They are unified in their love and appreciation for each of you bringing the blessings of the restoration into their lives. They thank you and Sister Pacini and I thank you.

Ciao’ missionari e amici d’Italia! Speriamo che avete gia’ sentito le notizie meravigliose che dopo decenni d’anni, i digiuni e le preghiere nostre in merito del Intesa sono state esaurite. Finalmente La Chiesa di Gesu’ Cristo dei Santi degli Ultimi Giorni e’ stato riconosciuto dalla republica Italiana come una chiesa a pari di poche altre chiese. Se non l’avete gia’ fatto tante volte, suggeriamo che prendete l’opportunita’ di ringraziare Padre Celeste per questo grande passo una volta in piu’ (DeA 59:21). Oltre le benedizioni evidenti sentiamo dentro di noi che questo passo provedera’ una visibilita’ superiore alla Chiesa e puo’ aiutare a creare un ambiente tale dove molte persone buone e sinceri comincierano a chiedere per ulteriori informazioni sulla Chiesa! Da li, piu’ persone in fila per ritornare al Padre.

Ci sono pure delle nuove fotografie sul Internet della “Piazza del Tempio” (so che non sia ufficiale quell nome ma mi suona talmente bene che non posso resistere l’opportunita’ di usarloJ). Mi piace anche il sito www.ldschurchtemples.com. Non e’ della Chiesa ma il fratello in Idaho che lo mantiene ha fatto un ottimo lavoro. Vedo che ci sono molte nuove fotografie, anche da parte da membri che conosciamo e che sono vicino ai nostril cuori. Le fotografie si trovano nella sezione “Rome Temple” e poi “Construction Photos.” Sono aggiornati le foto di tanto in tanto quindi speriamo che vi piaciono se queste sono nuove per voi. Vogliamo anche dirvi che NON saremo in grado organizare una riunione per i nostril missionari ritornati insieme alla Conferenza Generale di Ottobre. Il motive e’ che Sorella Pacini avra’ un intervento sulla sua trachea il 25 settembre e probabilmente sara’ ancora in ospedale quella data.

Per coloro che non sono al corrente, ecco un resoconto della sua situazione. In agosto 2008 era nella sedia posteriore di una machina che era colpita da un altra machina. Lei si e’ girata a protegere una nostra nipotina piccolissima e la cintura di sicurezza ha creato un danno alla sua trachea. Durante il periodo di ricovero, delle cicatricce hanno cominciato a crescere fino a bloccare la sua capacita’ a respirare. Hanno provato di fare un intervento piu’ tosto semplice due volte in marzo di 2011 e gennaio di quest’anno. Per alcune persone questo metodo funziona, ma non per lei. Purtroppo oggi lei non e’ in grado nemeno muoversi dalla camera da letto all cucina senza provare difficolta’ nel respirare. Siamo andati ad un altro chirugo e’ lui fara’ un intervento piu’ invasivo. Questa volta taglieranno una sezione intera della sua trachea per rimovere le cicatricce e poi riattachera’ i due pezzi della trachea. Avremo un digiuno a suo favore il 23 settembre e la vostra partecipazione o preghiere saranno apprezati. Vi terremo informati in merito al suo progresso.

Anche se non saremo in grado organizare una riunione – voi potete farlo ovunque siete! Se lo fate, sappiate del nostro affetto per ognuno di voi. La dedizione che avete mostrato in campo di missione, anche durante I giorni piu’ difficili, ha creato una differenza positiva nelle vite di cosi’ tante persone – incluse le nostre! In tali riunioni e’ sempre giusto ricordare quei fratelli che forse non hanno accettato completamente il nostro messaggio e anche di ricordare coloro che si sono perduti per la strada di vita. Preghiere, digiuni, lettere, email, ecc. a favore di queste anime preziose possono essere l’inizio di miracoli. Vogliamo che ognuno di queste persone sia presente quando il tempio e dedicato (speriamo in 2014). Percio’, non e’ troppo presto cominciare il lavoro di riattivazione or di ri-iniziare le fiamme del Vangelo fra coloro che non sono ancora membri. Sono tutti figli di Dio e sono a base del nostro amore per l’Italia e le nostre esperienze.

Anche se non ci siamo alla riunione con una scusa molto buono, ci dispiace non vedervi. Mi piace sempre prendere l’occassione dirvi quanti ci siete importanti e quanto il Signore vi ama. Queste riunioni sono anche una buona opportunita’ far ricordare a tutti l’importanza dei messaggi dalla conferenza generale. E’ miracoloso come il Signore puo’ rispondere alle nostre necessita’ e di darci forza in maniere cosi’ individuali ad ogni conferenza generale. Per non mancare a vedervi per troppo tempo, spero di fare un camminetto dopo capodano per coloro che sono in zona. Molte gruppi mi hanno chiesto di presentare delle cose in merito alla Chiesa in Italia, il tempio a Roma, ecc. Cosi’ posso fare un caminetto se volete. Fateci sapere cosi’ possiamo avere un posto di grandezza sufficiente per tutti. Anche se non tutta l’informazione sara’ nuovo per ognuno di voi, forse sara’ utile per i vostri familiari che saranno presente provare lo spirit del Signore e d’Italia in una maniera tale di poter capire meglio perche’ il nostro amore per l’Italia e’ cosi’ profondo.

Devo anche condividere l’affetto da parte dei Santi in Italia per tutti voi. Provo visitare con alcuni di loro attraverso il computer e il telefono quando posso. Loro sono unificati nella loro affetto e apprezamento per il messaggio della Restaurazione che li avete portato e rafforzato. Vi ringraziano e Sorella Pacini ed io vi ringraziamo.
