Temple Construction Officially Commenced

Cari Fratelli e Sorelle,

Siamo felici di annunciare che i lavori per la costruzione del Tempio di Roma sono ufficialmente iniziati.

Il sentimento di profonda gratitudine per questa grande benedizione che il Signore sta’ riversando sui santi a Roma e in Italia, ci spinge a chiedere a tutti i membri del palo di Roma di mostrare la nostra gratitudine unendoci in un digiuno di ringraziamento Domenica 24 Luglio 2011.

Questo digiuno ci consentira’ di prepararci con ancora maggiore consapevolezza spirituale per il viaggio di palo al Tempio svizzero la settimana successiva, e di unirci in un ideale abbraccio spirituale al fine di ringraziare il Padre Celeste per le grandi benedizioni che generosamente riversa sul suo popolo e su questa parte della sua vigna.

Vi chiediamo di continuare a servire con sempre maggiore devozione, carita’ e fede mentre ci prepariamo a ricevere ulteriori benedizioni nella Casa che il Signore sta’ preparando per noi.

Esprimiamo profonda gratitudine a tutti i santi nel palo mentre condividiamo questi momenti di grande gioia spirituale.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We are pleased to announce that construction on the Rome Temple has officially commenced.

The profound feeling of gratitude that results from this great blessing which the Lord is pouring out upon the saints in Rome and elsewhere in Italy, invites us to ask all members of the Rome Stake to consider showing our gratitude by uniting in a thanksgiving fast on Sunday, July 24, 2011.

This fast will help us prepare ourselves, with even greater spiritual sensitivity, for our temple trip to Switzerland the following week, and to unite us in a symbolic spiritual embrace to thank Heavenly Father for the great blessings that He so generously pours out upon His people in this part of His vineyard.

We ask you to continue to serve with ever greater devotion, charity, and faith while we prepare ourselves to receive the greater blessings that the Lord is preparing for us in His house.

We express our profound gratitude to all the saints in the stake as we share these great moments of spiritual joy.

PAULA FAIRHURST

We are saddened to inform you that Sorella Paula Fairhurst, one of our former missionaries, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2010.

She and her husband Steve, served in Naples when they were on their mission.

They served from 1999 - 2001.

Sorella Fairhurst loved the Italian's and worked hard with them!

We pray that the Lord's spirit will be with Steve and his family!

Paula Lee Fairhurst, age 65, died in her home at St George, Utah, Friday, 26 November 2010. She is the wife of William S. (Steve) Fairhurst, and daughter of Paul Hoyt Hewitt (deceased) and Josette Rood Hewitt of Port Orchard, Washington. Paula was born in San Francisco, CA on 25 Oct 1945 and lived in many locations. She was raised in a career military family and married a career U.S Air Force Officer. In more recent years she and her husband served 3 missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Italy, Switzerland, and Mozambique. She leaves a legacy of love and service to God, her family, and her country. She is survived by her husband, their son Kraig (wife, Christi) of Orem, Utah; their daughter Marlee Meyers (husband, Larry) of St George, UT; 6 grandchildren and her sister Andra P. Behmer of Port Orchard, Washington. Funeral services were held at the Winchester Hills Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Tuesday, 30 November 2010. Interment will be at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery. The family will greet and visit with Colorado friends and associates Friday evening, 3 Dec 2010, beginning at 6:00 pm at the Centennial Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5375 Centennial Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO.

Dear Elders and Sisters (and our friends who love Italy),

Today, 10/10/10, throughout the length and breadth of our beloved land of service to the Lord, Italy, an announcement was read to all those present in Church. It indicated that the groundbreaking for the temple in Italy will be held on October 23, 2010. Presiding at that ceremony will be President Thomas S. Monson.

Sister Pacini and I wish to thank each of you once again for your faithfulness during your missions together with your fasting and prayers since that time in behalf of this and other Italian related events. Over the years these acts of devotion, coupled with those of the Saints in Italy, have both permitted the inspiration of heaven to fall upon President Monson in announcing the temple two years ago as well as to miraculously obtaining the permission to build the temple in such a short time from when the plans were submitted to the civil authorities.

We hope that you will generously thank the Lord for His influence and assistance in bringing the construction of His house to this point of beginning. In additional to our prayers of thanksgiving a renewed dedication on our part to live the Gospel to its fullest will certainly be one of the best ways of showing the convictions of our hearts. In a similar vein, to build the faith of both active and less-active members that you know during the next few years will be even more important. Take the opportunity to prayerfully encourage all to be worthy to attend the dedication once it is announced and then to regularly attend the temple to receive those blessings for themselves and their kindred dead. Your encouragement will be most meaningful as now that this work has taken another step forward the adversary will only increase his pace and desire to attack the faithful.

As you will each remember, there is almost no parking on the land selected for the temple site. As a result, the First Presidency has requested that only selected priesthood leaders attend the ground breaking ceremony. To make the proceedings available to all the Italian saints, the ceremony will be taped and rebroadcast to all the chapels in Italy the following day – Sunday October 24th, 2010. Should individuals or groups arrive and create any form of traffic congestion or disruption of public order, our first public event relative to the temple would certainly leave negative feelings towards us and in the worst case could cause even more difficult circumstances now or in the future as permission to hold a temple open house is requested. Given your spiritual maturity, we are confident that not only will each of you abide by the” invitation only request,” but that you will also with great love and tenderness encourage your many friends and Church members in Italy to do the same. We are confident that the Lord is aware of your great love for Italy and your desires and willingness to sacrifice to be there at such a wonderful time. And for those desires each will be blessed even though they are not physically present.

We hope that you will each realize that while this is the first temple in Italy, it will serve the saints in many other nations and will be a blessing to the Italian Republic as well. The Spirit of the Lord has a wonderful effect on all when they are close to it. The eventual linking of families eternally, providing courage to the youth, and having a lovely edifice build to the Lord in the “eternal city” will bring untold blessings and open the way for many more of our brothers and sisters to embrace the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

While there was no public indication as to the length of time necessary to build the temple, when the open house might be, design of the temple, or many of the other details, as we hear something public we will share it with each of you.

Some of you may have heard indications of this announcement from a number of other sources recently, as did we. Until the announcement was official and public though, we deferred communicating anything. We desired that the information be correct and more importantly allow the faithful saints in Italy to hear such joyous news from their local priesthood leaders first.
As you now begin to communicate this to those who are near to your hearts please remember that many of those private communications that we choose to make over the Internet at times become public. Please ensure that all that is said and suggested is positive and does not reflect negatively on any one or any group. This is a great opportunity to build bridges and reclaim the souls of those who are wandering.

This announcement comes almost 160 years to the day (19 Sept 1850), from when President Lorenzo Snow by direction of the leadership of the Church officially dedicated Italy for the preaching of the Gospel. As you will remember, he spoke of the day when the “fullness of the Gospel” would be available to all in Italy. While the blessings of heaven have certainly been available to the Italian saints in the Swiss Temple for many years, this step will certainly be in partial fulfillment of President Snow’s prophetic vision those many years ago.

May the Lord bless you always for your service in the Italian part of His vineyard.

Cari Anziani e Sorelle (e tutti I nostril amici che vivono in Italia o amano l’Italia),

Oggi, 10/10/10, in tutta l’Italia che fu la terra benedetta del nostro servizio al Signore, e’ stato annunciato che il 23 ottobre 2010, Presidente Thomas S. Monson presiedera’ alla ceremonia del primo colpo di piccone per la costruzione del tempio Italiano a Roma.

Sorella Pacini e io desideriamo ringraziare ognuno di voi di nuovo per la vostra fedelta’ durante le vostre missioni insieme alle preghiere e ai digiuni fatti in favore di questo, e altri simili eventi spirituali che riguardano l’Italia. Attraverso gli anni, questi atti di devozione, in sostegno a quelli dei santi in Italia, hanno permesso I cieli a inspirare Pres. Monson prima di annunciare del tempio due anni fa e in modo miracoloso di ottenere il permesso di costruire in un period cosi’ breve da quando sono stati presentati I piani di costruzione alle autorita’ civili.

Speriamo che ringrazierete abbondantamente il Signore per la Sua influenza e assistenza nel portare a questo punto di inizio la costruzione della Sua casa a Roma. In oltre le nostre preghiere di ringraziamento, una ridedica da parte nostra a vivere pienamente il Vangelo sara’ certamente un modo accetabile mostrare al Signore gl’intenti dei nostri cuori. Approfittate dell’opportunita’, con preghiera, a dare corraggio a tutti rimanere o diventare degni di partecipare alla dedicazione del tempio una volta che viene pubblicato la data e poi di ricevere le benedizioni per loro stessi o I loro defunti di famiglia. Il sostegno che darete sara’ molto importante perche’ adesso che i lavori cominciano sulla costruzione, l’avversario comincera’ con piu’ intensita’ a cercare o a sviare o distruggere I fedeli.

Come ricorderete, non esiste quasi nessun parcheggio sul terreno. Come risultato, la Prima Presidenza ha chiesto che vengono di persona alla ceremonia solo alcuni dirigenti del sacerdozio nominato. Per permettere a tutti I santi di partecipare in qualche maniera, la ceremonia sara’ registrata e in seguito ritrasmessa il giorno successivo, 24 ottobre 2010, a qualche punto dopo le riunioni normali a tutti I membri Italiani nelle loro capelle. Se individui o gruppi dovessero arrivare in piu’ di quelli invitati e creare qualsiasi forma di difficolta’ col traffico, parcheggio, o altre forme di disordine pubblica, il nostro primo evento pubblico per il tempio potrebbe lasciare sentimenti molto negative verso di noi. Quei sentimenti negativi in seguito potrebbero causare difficolta’ nel futuro quando cercheremo il permesso per la casa aperta. Data la vostra maturita’ spirituale, siamo sicuri che seguirete questi consigli e in piu’ con grande amore e tenerezza cercherete di influenzare tutti I vostri amici a fare altretanto. Siamo convinti che il Signore benedira’ ognuno che avesse il desiderio di esser presente anche se per obbedienza non ci vanno.
Speriamo che ognuno di voi si ricordera’ che anche se questo e’ il primo tempio in Italia, servira’I santi in molte altre nazioni e sara’ una benedizione a tutti I cittadini Italiani. Lo Spirito del Signore ha un effetto meraviglioso a qualsiasi persona quando viene incontrato. In seguito suggelare le persone in famiglie eterne, fornire I giovani grande corraggio di spirito, e avere un edificio bellissimo costruito proprio per il Signore nella “citta eterna” porteranno benedizioni infinite e aprira’ la via per molti di piu’ dei nostril fratelli e sorelle ad abbracciare il Vangelo Restaurato del Signore Gesu’ Cristo.

Anche se niente di pubblico e’ stato detto in merito ai tempi di costruzione, quando si terrebbe una casa aperta, il disegno del tempio, o altri dettagli simili, appena che sentiamo qualcosa pubblica vi faremo sapere.

Qualcuno di voi forse avra’ sentito indicazioni di questo annuncio in anticipo e vi domanderete perche’ noi non abbiamo detto niente prima. Anche noi abbiamo sentito tale voci ma abbiamo deciso di aspettare che le cose fossero ufficiali e pubbliche. Volevamo anche assicurare che tutti I membri fedeli avessero il priveleggio di sentire queste notizie gioiose dai loro proprio dirigenti del sacerdozio per la prima volta.

Adesso che comunicate questo a quelli che vi sono vicino al cuore, per favore ricordatevi che molte volte comunicazioni privati su Internet saranno a conoscenza pubblica col tempo. Assicuratevi che tutto cio’ che dite in merito a questo evento cosi’ benedetto sia positivo e che non risulti in nessuna considerazione negativa riguardo una persona o un altro gruppo. Questo e’ una grande opportunita’ di costruire ponti con gli altri e ritrovare le anime che si sono perdute per le strade del mondo.

Questo annuncio viene quasi 160 anni dopo del giorno (19 Settembre 1850), da quando Presidente Lorenzo Snow per incarico delle autorita’ della Chiesa ufficialmente dedico’ la terra d’Italia per la predicazione del Vangelo. Come ricorderete, parlo’ del giorno quando “la pienezza del Vangelo” sarebbe disponibile a tutti in Italia. Dear fellow-workers in the Lord’s Kingdom,

It is with profound gratitude that we share with you the news that the Council of Ministers on Thursday the 13th of May in Rome approved the Church’s request to be regarded as a religion/church in the eyes of the Italian Republic. While many of you may have already heard from other sources, we wanted to share this momentous step towards full recognition in case you had not heard. This movement from charitable foundation status to that of an official religion/church is a very significant one for the reasons we have noted in the past.

We understand that this decision must yet be published in the official Parliamentary journal so a few simple actions need to be completed but this was a significant hurdle which we have been waiting for now for many months if not years. I hope we will each take the opportunity to offer a special prayer of thanksgiving to the Lord for His loving kindness in this regard.

Thank you also for your past faith and prayers. They have obviously helped! Please also know that your personal example during your mission has allowed the Church to be seen as a group of dedicated and law abiding people who profess the Lord Jesus Christ not only in word but in deed.

A continuance of your faith and prayers in behalf of the temple’s construction, and all that is involved with that, will also be noted on high.

May the Lord continue to bless each of you and your families!

Cari fratelli nel lavoro del Signore,

Se non avete gia’ sentito, e’ con una gratitudine profonda che condiviamo la notizia meravigliosa che “Il Consiglio dei Ministri si e’ diunito oggi, alle ore 10,00 a Palazzo Chigi, … Il Consiglio ha approvate sei disegni di legge che regolano I rapport fra lo Stato e alcune confessioni religiose, a sequito delle Intese gia’ stipulate con ciascuna di esse. Si tratta della Chiesa di Gesu’ Cristo dei Santi degli Ultimi Giorni …” Questo passo da ente patrimoniale a religion/chiesa e’ molto importante per le ragioni che abbiamo notato nel passato.

Sappiamo che ancora questo atto dev’essere publicato in parlamento secondo le leggi e mezzi determinati anche per legge. Cionondimeno, questo e’ un passo notevole che abbiamo aspetatto per mesi se non anni e vale una preghiera di gratitudine particolare da parte di ognuno di noi per la misericordia del Signore.

Grazie per le vostre preghiere e la vostra fede del passato. Sono ovviamente state utili! Sappiate pure che I vostri esempi in campo di missione ha dato al publico Italiano l’opportunita’ vedere che come gruppo siamo dedicati a servire e osservare le leggi. In piu’ che siamo un popolo che non solo dichiara la esistenza del Signore Gesu’ Cristo, ma che cerchi seguire il Suo esempio.

Continuate a pregare ed esercitare la vostra fede in merito alla costruzione del tempio e tutto cio’ che sia coinvolto in essa. Siamo altretanto sicuri che tale atti saranno anche notati in cielo.

Tomorrow morning, barring unexpected urgent government business, the discussion of the Church becoming a religion in Italy is scheduled for debate in the Council of Ministers. This will occur according to the agenda at 1:30 AM Mountain Daylight Time. TWO MISSIONS IN ITALY

To better serve the growing Church, a number of mission boundary changes have been announced in the Church News this weekend.

As of July, there will be 10 new missions and 14 will be combined. Italy’s Catania Mission will be combined with the Italy Rome & Italy Milan Mission. As you can see below, this will be one of many combinations to allow for accelerated growth within Europe and throughout the world.

We haven’t heard what the new official boundaries will be, but assume that there will be some impact beyond the addition of the Catania Mission to the Rome Mission otherwise there would not have been mention of the Milan Mission being involved.

This is truly a positive step and shows the great growth in Italy, as so many new Stakes have been formed over the past few years.
Each new stake reduces the need for a mission president to give guidance to districts. The maturity of stakes allows members to do more finding work thus requiring fewer missionaries. We have also heard that great progress is being made in Sicily and maybe a stake will be possible there within a very short period of time as well.

As long as we are sending this message out, maybe a word on the Rome Temple status. In visiting with some of the Saints in Rome, it appears that great progress continues to be made in gaining the necessary approvals to commence construction. Evidently, many more of these approvals have been received since we last communicated. Many familiar with the normal governmental approval process in Rome are amazed at how much progress has been made – obviously the Lord is most interested in this house that will be built to His name and glory. Some have said that normal approvals take from 5 – 7 years. We are not yet at one year, (since the Temple plans were first submitted to the city) and most of the approvals needed have now been granted. I do know that the Rome Stake Presidency has once again asked the members to remember all the governmental officials that are involved in their fast for March. Should you wish to participate I am sure it will be greatly appreciated by the Saints in Rome as well as the Lord. While no timelines exist, apparently within a few months all the approvals could be in place. I would assume that once the city grants the permits to start construction we will be able to see what the temple will look like. My former supervisor in the Church Office Building is now the Church’s Director for Temporal Affairs in Europe. He has seen the temple plans and while he was not at liberty to share them with me, he said that “the temple will be beautiful.” As we have so often discussed, while we know the building will be beautiful, the blessings that come from the ordinances performed within the temple that unite families eternally will be the true unseen beauty of the building.

Once again, the mission boundary changes, new stakes, and the progress on the temple construction approvals are evidence of the great impact that each of you had on the Lord’s work in Italy. The Church not only keeps growing, but grows at an ever increasing pace. Thank you again for your faithful service. Accepting the Lord’s call and doing your best has laid the foundation for this and so many other miracles in Italy.

A scopo di servire meglio la crescita della Chiesa, sono stati annunciate parrechi cambiamenti ai confini di missioni nel mondo questo weekend.

A luglio, ci saranno 10 nuovi mission e 14 saranno incorporate in altre mission gia’ essistenti. In particolare la missione di Catania sara’ inclusa nelle missioni di Roma e Milano. Come potete vedere da cio’ che seque, questo cambiamento sara’ uno dei tanti sia del mondo che dall”Europa.

Non sappiamo ancora i confini precisi, ma assumiamo che ci sara’ un’impatto oltre l’inclusione della Missione di Catania nei confini della missione di Roma, altrimenti non ci sarebbe stato menzionato la missione di Milano nell’annuncio ufficiale.

Questo e’ veramente un passo positivo e dimostra grande crescita e maturita’ in Italia. Ovviamente segue le formazioni di tanti nuovi pali negli anni recenti in Italia. Ogni nuovo palo reduce la quantita’ di tempo e risorse che un presidente di missione deve investire per gestire I distretti. La matturita’ dei membri permette anche meno missionari a fare il lavoro perche’ loro fanno molto piu’ lavoro di “ricerca” per dare ai missionari amici ad insegnare. Abbiamo anche sentito che il lavoro procede bene in Sicilia e forse un palo li’ sta sul orrizonte in breve tempo!

In tanto che mandiamo queste notizie, forse conviene includere qualcosa in merito al Tempio di Roma. Nelle chiachierate che faccio telefonicamente con I membri a Roma, sembra che grandi passi sono stati fatti nel passato recente. Incluso in questo sono nuove approvazioni dai vari entita’ del governo civile a Roma da quando ci siamo sentiti su questo argomento l’ultima volta. Di sicuro, il Signore si e’ interesato di persona a portare a fine questo meraviglioso progietto che sara’ una casa dedicate al Suo nome e gloria. Quasi tutti dicono che un progietto di questa complessita’ e grandezza di solito richiede dai 5 a 7 anni ricevere le approvazioni. Da quando I piani sono stati dati al commune l’anno scorso siamo a solo 10 mesi e quasi tutte le approvazioni sono in mano. So anche che la presidenza di palo ha chiesto ancora che I membri del palo di Roma includono nelle loro digiuni per marzo la richiesta al Signore di continuare a muovere questo lavoro e di benedire tutti I dirigenti civili con cuori aperti allo Spirito affinche’ possano sentire la necessita’ di affrettare questo lavoro. Sono sicuro che a voi pure l’invito a digiunare esiste. Siano I membri che il Signore stesso saranno grati per qualsiasi vostra sforza di fede in favore di questa grande opera. Anche se date precise per iniziare il lavoro di costruzione non esistono ancora, e’ la nostra speranza e’ che non ci vorra’ tanti mesi ancora prima di aver il primo colpo di piccone. Assumo pure, che appena che la citta’ da il permesso di costruire, saremo in grado a vedere come sara’ il disegno. Il mio vecchio capo a lavoro e’ stato trasferito di recente a Francoforte dove funge da direttore di affair temporali per la Chiesa in tutta l’Europa. Lui ha visto I piani per il tempio e anche se non era libero dimostrarmeli, mi ha detto che “il tempio sara’ bellissimo!” Come abbiamo discusso cosi’ tante volte, anche se sappiamo che il tempio di fuori sara’ bello, la bellezza piu’ profonda sara’ legato alle benedizioni dal interno del tempio dove le ordinanze eterne che riuniscono famiglie verrano sequite.

Una volta in piu’, I cambiamenti di confine, I nuovi pali, e il progresso nell’ottenere le approvazioni per costruire il tempio dimostrano l’impatto che ognuno di voi ebbe nel costruire le fondamenta del lavoro del Signore in Italia. La Chiesa non cresce soltanto in Italia, ma cresce sempre piu’ rapidamente. Grazie di nuovo per il vostro servizio fedele e di cuore. Di aver accettato la chiamata del Signore a service e poi a dare il vostro meglio sono le attitudini che hanno permesso questa crescita’ e gli altri miracoli spirituali che vediamo in Italia.

Con profonda gratitudine per il privilegio a servire insieme, sappiate che rimanette sempre nelle nostre preghiere!

New missions 10 announced in seven areas

Some missions combined with neighboring missions

To better align resources and adjust to the ever changing needs of the Church, 10 new missions will be organized in July, while 14 other missions will be combined with neighboring missions. The resulting number of missions will be 340.

Europe Area

Combine the Germany Hamburg Mission with the Germany Berlin Mission, with headquarters in Berlin.

Combine the Switzerland Zurich Mission with the Germany Munich/Austria Mission, and portions of the Germany Frankfurt Mission. The resulting mission will be named the Alpine German-Speaking Mission, with headquarters in Munich.

Combine the Ireland Dublin Mission with the Scotland Edinburgh Mission. The resulting mission will be named the Scotland/Ireland Mission with headquarters in Edinburgh.

Combine the Italy Catania Mission with the Italy Rome and the Italy Milan missions.

Combine the Spain Bilbao Mission with the Spain Barcelona, Spain Madrid and Spain Malaga missions.

There are many "Mormon Myths" going around right now, about the Temple in Rome! Please be very careful what you forward on to others!

Friends:

Many of you have received various e-mails describing inspirational events relating to the establishment of the temple in Rome. While the basic spirit of those e-mails is correct (i.e., that the hand of the Lord is guiding every aspect of the project), there are several inaccuracies that I should correct.

Specifically, none of the Catholic leaders we met said "We will support you in any effort you want because of your support of Proposition 8 in California." Not only does the Catholic Church have no official decisional role with regard to the Rome temple, it has not made any commitment of support, whether because of Proposition 8 or otherwise.

What is true is that at the reception in Rome in January 2009 (where we fortuitously met Catholic leaders), there were several Catholic officials who were aware of the Church's work in California on Proposition 8 and who thanked me as a representative of the Church for that good work. They were grateful that the Church and its members had acted so vigorously and well in defense of our common principles. Indeed, since then it has become clear that the Church has obtained greater credibility and respect worldwide because of what our members did in California. That valiant work has opened doors of cooperation with other faith groups and like-minded organizations that has already benefited the Church.

There is no question that the Lord's hand has been evident at many stages of the temple project in Rome, from the initial purchase of the property many years ago, to the necessary rezoning that occurred last year, to our smooth dealings with the city of Rome this year in seeking building permissions, to our encounters with Cardinals and others within the Catholic Church who have been respectful and interested. It has been a faith-building privilege to participate in and to share some of the details of that process.

But please keep in mind that our efforts to obtain the necessary building permissions within the Rome City Administration have not come to full fruition and remain at a delicate stage. Consequently, we need to be cautious and judicious when we discuss what is happening there and should take care not to spread incorrect information.

Dear Elders and Sisters,

As another holiday season begins, we express to you once again our gratitude for the association we share having served the Lord together in Rome. Sister Pacini and I hope that as you hear of progress being made by the Church in Italy, and especially as the Rome Temple moves forward, that you will realize that you were a part of this great work – an important part!

During the Thanksgiving period I had occasion to telephone President DeFeo, the stake president in Rome. He indicated that while significant progress is being made in obtaining the necessary approvals to commence building the temple, the building permit process is not complete. As you can imagine for any city of over 5 million inhabitants, the city must take many aspects of a major construction project into consideration prior to giving its approval. President DeFeo indicated that all the members of the Rome Stake have been asked to include the temple approval process and those so involved in their fast for December. Evidently additional meetings and work will be scheduled during December and the Lord’s help will be greatly needed. Sister Pacini and I have invited our family and friends to participate in this fast as well. As fellow laborers, we extend that invitation to you and those that you feel would find this a meaningful event to participate in. We also remind you to thank the Lord for all His help to this point. Without His direct intervention, we would not be seeing the great strides that are being made.

You may also hear many faith promoting stories about the progress of the temple. I would suggest that unless you hear those directly from the person involved or a member of the First Presidency in a public forum, that it is better to keep the warm feelings such accounts give us to ourselves and not pass them on. It is always easy to have a story change as it is passed along, and we would not want to embarrass anyone or otherwise slow down the work unintentionally. Knowing by the Spirit the Lord is pleased to build a temple in Rome is really the only thing we need to dwell on right now.

President DeFeo shared that the most recent stake conference in Rome was a great spiritual feast for all that were involved. In addition to the spirit that was present in all the meetings, he felt particularly grateful for the many new families that have joined the Church in the last six months and those that have come back into activity. He said that almost every ward and branch has had full families and others either come into the Church or back into activity or both. What a great report and tribute to those missionaries currently serving together with all the local leaders and members.

President DeFeo also indicated that he has seen the plans for the temple and that they are beautiful. He is not at liberty to share them at this point, but once the city and the area presidency have given their approvals he will share the plans with all of us unless the Church has made them publically available through some other means. He also expressed his thanks for the many prayers which continue to be offered for him, the other local Church leaders, and those involved in granting the approvals. Isn’t it wonderful how the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ can give us common purpose in a world that is so filled with division and strife?

Please know that you each remain in our prayers. We pray especially at this time of year, that despite the trials of life, that this Christmas season will bring you great joy as we each reflect on the eternal blessing which Christmas helps us remember –

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

We want to thank you all for your kindness, concern and willingness to help those who have been affected by the L'Aquila earthquake. The church is very involved (as they always are) in helping those who have lost their homes and other personal things. After communication with the local priesthood leaders, we have been counseled that the best way for you to help would be to donate money on Sunday, in your ward/branch, on a regular Donations Slip. Place the contribution under OTHER and write 'L'Aqulia, Italy - Earthquake Fund'. Any donations other than money would be difficult to get into the area right now, but with the money, local leaders can purchase the items that are needed! Madrilena ed io siamo appena tornati da una visita al tempio svizzero di Berna. Durante questi giorni tutti i presenti hanno sempre pregato per il popolo dell'Abruzzo, e noi abbiamo ricordato in particolare i nostri fratelli e sorelle che si trovano in difficolta'. A visit to L'Aquila

Volevo dirti come è andata la visita a L'Aquila. Le figlie di Hibo e Melone sono state felicissime di vedere Denise e Dalila, hanno passato del tempo insieme, hanno mostrato dove dormono, mangiano, la doccia ecc.tutto nelle tende. Gli hibo vanno a casa per prendere qualcosa ma è pericoloso. Le ragazze sono state felici dei regalini che Denise e Dalila hanno preparato per loro, erano serene. Denise è rimasta molto colpita da come stanno affrontando questa situazione, del fatto che la notte del terremoto, le ragazze dell'Aquila fossero preoccupate per quelle di Roma, infatti Arianna Hibo ha telefonato a Denise quella notte per essere sicura che stesse bene. Sono giovani speciali, hanno un grande amore l'una per l'altra, e sono grate, nonostante tutto, di come è andata. Un grande esempio da piccole donne.

I want to tell you how the visit to L'Aquila went. The daughters of the Hibo's & Melone's were thrilled to see Denise & Dalila. They passed the time together, showing where they sleep, eat and shower, etc. everything's in the tent. The Hibo’s go to their house to get some of their things, but it is dangerous. The girls were happy with the gifts Denise and Dalila brought them, they are calm. Denise was very impressed by how they are addressing this situation, the fact that the night of the earthquake, the girls form L'Aquila were worried about those in Rome, infact, Arianna Hibo called Denise that night to be sure that everything was ok. These young people are special, they have great love for one another, and are grateful, nevertheless, of how things went. They are a great example of little women.

Ciao Julie, this morning I heard brother Melone and Annamaria Hibo. They are ok. They also are grateful for the bretheren that yesterday went to L'Aquila to bring something necessary for this period of time. Today I know that Pres. De Feo e Brother Vardeu and their daughters are in L'Aquila to bring some comfort to them. I gave my help to have their daughters to my place but they said no because their daughters don't want to leave their parents.

Church leaders and Stake leaders are meeting together and putting together something that the Italian Government will allow and we'll let you know as soon as we hear something! Many thanks for your answer. Tomorrow morning I will be in Aquila and meet with our Brothers and Sisters, see if and how we can help.Today we had other severe earthquakes in all the region. People sleep in cars or in other possibilities given by the authorities. In my village they don't have water to drink. All shops are closed. As announced by authorities, it seems that there is actually no end to these earthquakes.Tomorrow I will get news from Luana and her mother.

Here is my report: President Angelo Melone and his family lost completely their home. President S.P.Hibo has big damages in his house, they slept in their car because the earthquake continued strong even tonight. Brother Bruno Diodato and family left their home and are in another town. Brother Custode, responsable for Missionary work in L'Aquila, left his home with all the family.Yesterday I had to flee myself with our cat, because our house is very damaged, and I am actually here in Rome with my wife Maria Rosa.Tomorrow I will be back in L'Aquila to meet with the others and see what we can do and help the people there.The Church in L'Aquila is very damaged. The Elders are all O.K.

We are talking with the family Melon, they too have chosen the same thing. They prefer to be assigned a tent, we respect their choice. We are ready to go. Thank you for your prayers.

Many have contacted us wanting to know what we know about the earthquake that hit L’Aquila, Italy, last night. We have been in contact, throughout the night with members in the Rome area. I have been sending out messages through Facebook, if you have an account but are not receiving those messages, let me know.

Through this group I have been sending out updates.

I will post updates here on our mission website.
This is the last we have heard, after having Facebook contact with many,

particularly Loredana DeFeo & Patrizia Vacarona and

talking to the Calabrese’s, Consoli’s and others:
All missionaries and members are safe.

The Melone’s and Palone’s have lost their homes.

We are not sure about the Church.

The Calebrese’s who live south of Rome, felt the quake and

spent an hour outside waiting to see what was going to happen.

The epicenter was right in the center of L’Aquila.

Members want to go up and help, but the freeway is closed because

they are worried that the bridges going to L’Aquila might collapse.

It is a terrible thing, please keep them all in your prayers!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Radman family!

Ivan Radman 1928 ~ 2009 Ivan Radman passed away March 14, 2009 in the arms of his wife and children, blanketed in the love of 30 grandchildren, 19 great-grand-children and dear friends.Born, March 22, 1928 in Radmani on the Dalmatian Coast of Yugoslavia to Joseph Radman and Natalia Stefanic, Ivan learned early the value of dedication to task, wisdom in choice as well as the perils of totalitarianism. His young years were spent tending the family's farm and animals as well as serving in their small village grocery store. World War II brought turmoil and destruction to their region with friends and family members suffering the ravages of war. Forced from his family and homeland in his teens as a political refugee, Ivan sought asylum in Italy for the duration of the war before migrating to Australia in 1949 on a program for displaced persons. Ivan met and married the love of his life, Janet Tredrea, whose love has enriched their 56 wondrous years together. They were subsequently sealed in the Logan temple for time and all eternity. Six children were born to their union, Peter, Martin, Jordan, Donna (Smylie), JoAnne (Crook), Bronte (Clarke). Ivan became a member of the LDS church in 1952 and has engaged in faithful service as a home teacher, bishop, mission president of the Italy Milan mission and the New Zealand Christchurch mission, as well as many other callings. Ivan cherished his experiences with his missionaries and has held dear in his heart each one individually. His love of, and devotion to gospel principles has been the cornerstone of his life. In 1978 Ivan, Janet and family moved to the United States, settled in Salt Lake City, built a home, started a family business and eventually became proud US citizens. Ivan embraced life with enthusiasm, boundless energy, abiding respect for his fellow man, unwavering confidence in the resiliency of the human spirit and indomitable passion in all his endeavors. He loved sports, especially tennis and squash. In all his pursuits, Ivan brought his best game, a generosity of spirit, relentless effort and determination. He taught by example, inspired through actions and encouraged with exhortation and compassion. His greatest joy came through interaction with his family, friends and associates. Ivan loved life, lived each day to its fullest, always maintained a sense of humor through adversity and rose to meet every challenge. He will be dearly missed. The family extends a special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the ICU at SL Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21 at 12 p.m. at the LDS Mount Olympus 2nd Ward located at 3862 E. Oakview Drive (4342 S). Carissimi Presidente e Sorella Pacini:
Come state? Appena tornato al lavoro vi scrivo per darvi delle notizie sulla piccola Costanza.
Venerdì scorso le hanno fatto un' eco doppler per misurare il funzionamento del cuoricino e dei polmoni. Ci siamo sentiti molto benedetti quando il cardiologo ci ha detto che la situazione non è gravissima. Da adesso in poi dovremo soltanto controllare lo sviluppo e la crescita della bimba. Se continua a crescere senza problemi non faranno niente, almeno per il momento.
I problemi sono:
Ci sono delle comunicazioni tra le auricole e tra i ventricoli, inoltre una delle valvole ( quella dell'arteria polmonare) non funzina del tutto bene. Niente però comporta un rischio di vita. Attualmente i problemi cardiaci non provocano una maggior pressione ai polmoni. In chiesa sono stato chiamato consigliere nel vescovato. È una grandissima opportunità di progresso. Nel nostro quartiere c'è il presidente di palo e l'Anziano Etchegaray, Settanta Autorità di Area, la cui presenza alle lezioni del sacerdozio e della Scuola Dominicale ci arricchisce sempre.
Ia prima domenica di gennaio abbiamo fatto la benedizione di Costanza e abbiamo scattato la fotografia che vi spedisco. Vi voglio ringraziare per le vostre preghiere e per la fede di tanti cari amici aggiunta in favore di Costanza.

Benji is teaching at the Junior High in Heber City and coaching wrestling & football.

Graduated from Brigham Young University in April, in Media Arts-Film & plans to attend
graduate school next year in Film Studies. Is currently working as a Producers Assistant for the
Churches Audiovisual Department and enjoys the single scene in Salt Lake City.

Returned home from her mission to Ecuador in March. She is currently working for the

please keep Costanza in your prayers!

Carissimi Presidente e Sorella Pacini,
Salve! Come vanno le cose? Spero molto bene. Ho visto salla pagina della missione il vostro bell'albero di natale. Che meraviglia!
Vi scrivo per chiedervi una cosa molto importante. Come sapete il 29 ottobre (26 giorni fa, se non sbaglio il calcolo) è nata mia figlia Costanza. Fino a giovedì scorso andava tutto bene. Giovedì l'abbiamo portata dal medico e lì hanno scoperto che ha qualche problema al cuore. Non sappiamo ancora quale sia il problema. Dobbiamo fare degli accertamenti per stabilirne la gravità e sapere quale sarà la condotta a seguire: lasciare stare, usare dei medicinali oppure operare. In questi giorni aspettiamo per poter fare quegli accertamenti, che speriamo saranno entro la fine del mese o in linea di massima i primi di dicembre. Nel frattempo vi chiedo di unirvi noi in preghiera affinché Costanza possa guarire e possa andare tutto bene. Siamo consapevoli che comunque vadano le cose si farà la volontà di Dio. E anche preghiamo per poter accettarla se essa non si rivelasse come noi ce l'aspettiamo. Noi preghiuamo per la sua guarigione e confidiamo che le cose andranno per il meglio.
Io so che la fede apre le porte del cielo, non abbiamo visto tanti miracoli accadere?

To our dear family & friends,

We write this to you with great excitement and thanks to our Father in Heaven for answering all of our prayers! We were thrilled when we heard the announcement that a Temple will be built in Rome, Italy!

Ironically, we were probably the last to hear about it as we are presently in Indonesia, on the island of Bali. We spent a week with our son Joseph and his family in Hong Kong (where they live). Their children are out of school, so we all came here to Bali for a vacation. It has been wonderful, topped off with this great news!

President Monson made the announcement while we were sleeping and upon waking, Joseph asked if we had heard the news. We didn’t know what he was referring to, he then said that Aaron had emailed us, but we hadn’t checked our emails and then Joseph told us about the news of a Temple to be built in Rome. Craig’s arm went up into the air and he said “YES”! Then we were all filled with emotion as the reality of this news came to us, something we have been praying for for many years, has come to pass! Later, in the evening, we down loaded President Monson’s talk and once again, we were filled with emotions as we heard him announce that a Temple will be built in Rome, Italy!

We are thrilled for the Saints in Italy and know this will be a great blessing to Italy, as well as to the world. This Temple will serve the Italian people and the whole Mediterranean area, as well as the Middle East. Many lives will be touched and blessed because of it!

Since leaving Italy (over 6 years ago) we have seen the spirituality of the Italian people grow, as a Stake was organized a few years ago, and now a Temple will be built in Rome.

We were thankful to all of you who wrote to us and told us of your experience as you heard the announcement. You will eventually receive an email from us, but at the moment I (Julie) am unable to have my emails send out, though I am receiving them. I am not sure what is happening, but know that you will eventually hear from us! Thanks also, to those who called, Ashley and Benjamin told us of the many phone calls!

This is what Barbara Ventura wrote to us about hearing the announcement at church in Rome:

"Sister Pacini...can you believe it? Oh I wish you all could have been here with us...that you could have seen and heard our astonishment turning in joy.. hear the shouting of joy...everyone emotional and smiling and crying...and running out of the room to call on the phones all those that weren't there...I can't express what I felt, I don't know how to explain the heart stop beating and being there in a limbo for what it seemed an everlasting second... and then starting to beat happily crazy...the time it took to be able to breathe again...We have been blessed with the miracle we have been praying for so long...The work of the Lord is going forth and nothing will stop it….Love, Barbara"

Thank you Barbara, it was so fun to read what you wrote and to feel the joy of the Italian members!

Tomorrow we will return to Hong Kong and then we join up with a tour group and go into China for 2 ½ weeks. From there will return to Hong Kong to spend some more time with Joseph, Rosie, Joshua, William and Elizabeth, before returning home.

We are having a wonderful time and seeing the beautiful creations of our Father in Heaven. We are on the island of Bali, possibly the only members of the church here, if there are others they are small in number, we couldn’t find them! There are 3 million people on this small island and I know that Our Father in Heaven loves each of them as much as He loves us. I know that they need the Gospel in their lives and with a Temple now to be in Rome, it is another evidence that the Gospel is going to the world. Someday there might be a Temple here in Indonesia. It is a wonderful thought that there is at this time a Temple in what was once East Germany and there is one in China, Hong Kong. The Lord moves in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform. It is up to us to be good examples and to live the Gospel to the best of our abilities, and then blessings come and touch the lives of the Saints and bless the world!

Abram Antonucci asks for your prayers:

Recently my father was working construction on his job site and fell off a roof and landed on his neck. Fortunately my brother was nearby and was able to perform CPR and brought him back to life long enough for the paramedics to asssist him and life flight him to a hospital. He received serious damage to his spine and was temporarily paralzed. We still do not the extent of damage. He has some feeling in his legs and can move them a little. The power of the priesthood is responsible for keeping him alive. If you can please let my fellow missionaries and Italian families know of his condition and remember him in their prayers. He is the strongest physical and spiritual man I know and he has a lot to live for. His accident has already touched many lives and will touch many more. His name is John Anthony Antonucci, he is a son of Italian immigrants to this country. He will walk again.

Anziano Nathan Scott Von Niederhausern

12/30/1977 ~ 8/29/2008 Nathan Scott VonNiederhausern, 30, a remarkable young man, was called home early, Aug. 29, 2008, after a courageous battle with unexplained lung cancer. He was born December 30, 1977 in Salt Lake City, UT to Richard Scott and Esther Sharp VonNiederhausern. He was raised in West Jordan, UT and graduated from West Jordan High School. He was an active member of the L.D.S. Church throughout his life. Fulfilled a mission 1997-1999 to Rome, Italy. He was currently serving as Elders' Quorum President in his ward. Worked for Otto Bock Co. Married Kristy Carlile March 23, 2001 for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Nathan was a quiet, unassuming, gentle, kind, friendly person, quick to learn and willing and ready to serve others. He was a good-natured tease with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading, building things for his family, artistic painting, and, most of all, spending time with his wife and two sweet sons. He was an Eagle scout who lived the scout oath, slogan, laws, and motto to a "t" and endured nobly until the end. He was certainly always prepared in life and for death as well. He had a strong testimony of the Plan of Salvation and of the Savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by his loving wife, Kristy, sons Casey (3) and Clayton (1), his father and mother; brothers and sisters: Bryce (Karlene), Bountiful, UT; Anthony (Lauri), Logan, UT; Cameron, and Melissa (Peter) Houston, West Jordan, UT; LaDawn (Jeffrey) Vermeeren, Calgary, Canada; Kristy's father and mother: Lonnie & Sue Carlile; and her brothers and sisters: Carie (Chris) Landell; Kale (Jennifer) Carlile; Ken (Kim) Carlile; and 20 nieces and nephews who will miss Uncle Nate. Funeral services will be held Wed. Sept. 3rd at 11 a.m. at the Hillsdale LDS Ward building located at 3175 S. 3450 W. where a viewing will be held 9:45 -10:45 a.m. prior to the services and Tues. night 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Taylorsville Cemetery located at 4500 S. We thought we should write a little something about those of you who travel to Italy. Many have written to us for names/phone numbers/emails of members who they can stay with while visiting in Italy. Our recommendations are that if you have friends in Italy, please contact them directly. If you don't have anyone to contact, please stay in hotels or rooms. It wouldn't be appropriate for us to suggest people for you to stay with, if you don't know them! The majority of the members homes are small and finances can be tight! The mission home is NOT a hotel, thus not a place for former missionaries to stay, not to mention the Mission President's busy schedule and his families right to privacy!

When you do travel to Italy, have a WONDERFUL time and give our love to all!

On behalf of the Rome Italy stake, I express our sincere condolences to the family, and our deepest gratitude for Elder Williams' divine work during his mission service in Italy.
Looking at what he did and reading about the example he has given in facing the illness with such a positive and faithful attitude, we bow our heads in due respect for the sweet spirit that this sad experience has brought in the lives of all that knew him and in ours.
We can all certainly learn from such a divine Christlike example of faith and love. We pray for him and his family.

We never met Elder Cameron Williams, however, because he served in the Rome Mission as we did, he was always in our daily prayers that we continued to offer for all missionaries who worked and are still working in that special and so loved part of the Lord's vineyard.
Now, the Lord's plan is including Elder Williams in His work behind the veil, where he will surely continue to be true and faithful in all things.
We pray for having enough courage and strenght to persevere in keeping our Covenants and deserve to meet him one day at the Celestial Presence of our Heavenly Father, together with all those are near and dear to us.

Cameron David Williams 1982 ~ 2008

Cameron David Williams, our dearly loved son, brother and friend, was set free from the bonds of mortality, Saturday, February 16th. He was born, December 9th, 1982, in Orem, Utah.Cam was victorious in life and was received by his Maker who gave him life. He is in a state of happiness, a state of rest, a state of peace, where he has respite from all the tubes, catheters and illness that tried to hold him down. He thirsts no more, he is no longer tired, he hungers no more, he runs, he walks, he is laboring and doing whatever is required of him, he is full of life, full of energy, and he is enjoying the presence of his ancestors and his Heavenly Father. Though his passing is devastating to us, we were granted a gift of six additional months that were beautiful and sacred. As his family, we feel cherished and blessed by our association with so great a man. Cam was dubbed at an early age by his siblings as "the perfect child." Indeed, he kept his religious covenants, honored his priesthood and fulfilled his roles, responsibilities and stewardships with great vigor. Cam took on a vicious foe in gastric cancer with all his heart, might and mind. His faith in Jesus Christ and in His enabling Atonement, coupled with the aid of non traditional and traditional medicine, gave him power to wage battle daily and to defy all medical laws. He handled this burden with dignity and grace. He kept his body and spirit undefiled and thus received the blessings of physical, emotional and spiritual strength, stamina and peace. Cam was a generous person and a friend to all, particularly to those whose hands hung low. Cam loved life and all the good things that were offered. He served an honorable and focused L.D.S. mission in the Italy, Rome Mission. He was entering his senior year at BYU. Cam has left a legacy in his short 25 years of love, honor, service and friendship to those who had the good fortune to know him. Cam had long arms and touched so many. Cam made a difference for good in the world and blessed the lives of countless people along his mortal sojourn. We join our hearts with those of you who knew him in bidding him a fond farewell and "we'll see you soon." Cam is survived by his parents David and Paula Williams; his siblings, Amber (David) Bauerle, Lindsey, Charisse and Tanner and his little nephew, Corbin; his grandparents, Shirley Williams, Paul and Alice Mann; along with many uncles, aunts and cousins. Funeral services will be held, (possibly closed casket), Saturday, February 23rd, 2008, at 11 a.m. with visitation two hours prior at the Provo Sharon East Stake Center, 1060 East 2500 North, Provo, UT. An "open casket" viewing will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, February 20th, 2008, at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street in Orem. Interment will be in the East Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Provo.

THE PASSING OF CAMERON WILLIAMS

Dear Family and Friends,

With heavy hearts we inform you that our valiant son passed away this morning at 7:19 a.m. after battling to the end. He left this estate to the next without pain and with dignity. All his family was by his side through the events of the last 24 hours.

We know that Cam is thrilled to be free from all the tubes, catheters and cancer. He is probably right now going around meeting all his ancestors and having an extraordinary experience. We know he is in a better place. We will be forever indebted to you for your prayers, faith, kindnesses and support. Cam was victorious! We were granted both quantity and quality time battling with and serving Cam.

Funeral service will be arranged shortly. We are most likely looking to Friday as the day of funeral….a day to celebrate Cam’s life. We will follow up with more details as we make them.

Cameron Williams' dad;

Dear Family and Friends,

Due to God’s grace and mercy and by virtue of everyone’s personal and collective heart felt petitions to our Creator, Cam is still fighting with all his heart, mind and spirit. He has ups and downs while he is on life support. Due to a great physician at the hospital who has and is doing everything in his power, utilizing the talents and resources at the hospital, coupled with his compassion, Cam has still a chance to get strong enough for the ventilator and the continuous dialysis to be eliminated. Cam is remarkably without pain….an absolute “tender mercy” from our Savior. As his faculties become more awakened he is more uncomfortable nearly continuously and needs constant movement, adjustment, rubbing. His pneumonia and lung capacity has not improved a great deal the last few days, due mostly to his absolute lack of any energy reserves. His liver is still in high distress and his abdominal fluid has become hardened, encapsulating all his organs and his kidneys are not functioning. Every day Cam becomes an even more perfect recipe for God’s Grace to grant a miracle if it His will. All He would need to do his touch Cam and he would be completely healed.As all of his family surrounded him last night and was massaging him, stretching his limbs, rubbing his feet, sharing events in their lives, all the sudden Cam feebly started to point at everyone and after guessing for many moments what he wanted us to do, one of his siblings finally said, “Do you want us to leave….” He shook his head emphatically up and down. We got a chuckle out of this and we left him for the night.We remain optimistic, hopeful, exercising as much faith as we know how to, trying not to let all the tangible evidences break us. No man can take our hope away. Our family is being strengthened to handle our circumstance.Cam just needs a special pebble to nail this goliath between the eyes. We are waiting upon the Lord to provide this pebble.With hope and gratitude,

Benefit concert for Cameron Williams:

Hello everyone!

As some of you know I am putting together a benefit concert to help raise money for Cameron. The concert is March 8th at Timpview High School and will feature:

Peter Breinholt (one of Cam’s favorite artists)
Sam Payne
Joshua James
Mckay Stevens

All of the artists are donating their time 100%, which we are so grateful for. I need a few things from you:

Please put this date on your calendar – I really want to fill the seats!!!! Show will start at 7:00 p.m.
I am going to need a lot of help with advertising – I am getting fliers printed next week and need help putting them all over BYU and UVSC apartments, also hanging posters at stores, etc.

And the last thing I ask of you, which could really help this cause is to find some sponsors for the event. We will be printing around 8,000 fliers that will have all of the sponsors on them, also at the concert; there will be a big poster or two showing who is sponsoring the event.

This is an excellent way to even bring in more money before the concert even takes place. I know there are many companies that would consider spending even $250 towards something like this. I know each and every one of you could find 1 or 2 companies that would love to sponsor. Since we are printing next week, I would need an email back from you with the company logo as soon as possible as you find any sponsors. I would like the minimum sponsor amount to be $250.

Please, please help me with this – I know we can make this effort the most successful fundraiser yet. Even if some of you students went door to door to some companies, I know you will find sponsors! Or think of family, friends or anybody that works somewhere that could sponsor. $250 (or more) is not a lot to ask a company, but could add up quickly for us. I did this in High School to raise money for my dance team, and raised $3,000 just by telling companies that we will put their logos in our program. You can also tell them that Timpview seats 1,480 people, so there should be many people that will see that they have sponsored the event. I will also mention all of our sponsor names on stage before or during the show as the artists are setting up.

I really hope to hear from all of you soon with your lists of sponsors!!!! The fund has been dry for almost a month and I want so badly to relieve this financial burden from my parents as much as possible as they are paying out of pocket around $8,000 a week! And remember, I’m not asking for your personal donations, but your help with gathering others.

since thur. Cam has had some small improvements such as his heart is at a healthier rate, his blood pressure has been great, and his oxygen is slowly getting better although fluctuating along the way. the last few labs have shown that his biliruben and other liver markers have become stronger and are heading in the right direction. Cam's been building his own blood (RBC) the last few days as well as his (WBC) white blood count decreasing which is a great thing.the last couple of days his body has had a hard time releasing fluid normally and therefore he's become incredibly swollen. the doctors came to the conclusion that his kidneys are having a hard time and last night attempted to inject him with something to release the fluid. they tried this twice without any success. so the other alternative now is Cam will be immediately put on dialysis this morning. meaning another catheter will be placed so his kidneys can become stronger and function properly before they fail. we must pray that this dialysis will help him and that he'll only be on it temporarily until his body is working to his greatest capacity again.please, please continue to keep him in your hearts and prayers. he's come too far to not continue to be blessed with miracles.love,lindsey

UPDATE Monday, February 4, 2008

From Cameron's sister:

As soon as we thought life couldn't get anymore scary, Cam aspirated and started having a hard time breathing on Thursday night... his oxygen slumped and he was luckily a block away from a hospital to be rushed and to have a ventilator inserted.after a couple of hours of him being stable they life-flighted him to the ICU at Utah Valley. Since then he's been under a doctor endorsed coma or in other words highly sedated so that he doesn't have the reflex of gagging his ventilator or ripping his NG (nose) tube out.Cam's had another catheter placed on him, a new pick line on his neck, and another blood transfusion since Thursday. The doctors have been running a very successful oxygen program that they've seen many positive results with. Cam will remain sedated until his body is cooperating and able to again breath on his own. The doctors have already seen great improvements with him since the first day he was admitted to ICU.We continue to be optimistic, because there's absolutely no reason to be otherwise. We are completely aware of his critical stage and we are aware of the odds that we're up against, but Cam has had SO many miracles and beaten hundreds of odds so far, so why would we expect otherwise?Some of you have asked if Cam's been in pain, or perhaps may be wondering if this is what Cam wants, 'to keep fighting!" absolutely it is. Cam was asked just days ago, if he could have one wish or to be anywhere in the world where that would be and he said, "here at the doctors, to keep fighting"Cam has never ever said anything close to wanting to give up, or why me? Miraculously throughout this whole experience Cam has only had some small pain. It's come and gone a few times, but it's always been tolerable, or fixed by priesthood blessings. I hope you all know Cam's desire to live is just as strong as my family's. We have not pushed him to do more than he's wanted, and for those of you that know him, you know he'd surely let us know if he were to want to give up. He's stubborn, he's always had his own opinion and there's nothing that's ever come out of his mouth other than he wants to fight.Please continue to pray that he'll become stronger and be healed.Thank you for all the prayers, hope and love... keep it coming.L, L

From his sister Lindsay...

Many of you may have heard that Cam is in critical condition and fighting for his life hour by hour. He’s extremely weak and has been a bit delirious the last couple of days, but has continued to hold on…Yesterday and night was extremely scary and we didn’t know if he’s was going to make it or not. His biliruben has only been climbing for the last 3 weeks and therefore has taken every ounce of energy from him that he can hardly even talk.Although we’re not even close to out of the dark I wanted to share with all of you that because of the many prayers, thoughts, support and help that have been in his and my family’s behalf that his biliruben has come down 3 points since yesterday and a few other markers we look for have become healthier today. This is truly a miracle and nothing else. Thanks for all your support, and continuous curiosity on how Cam’s doing. I don’t mind talking about it, so feel free to ask details anytime. L,L

LATEST UPDATE FOR CAMERON WILLIAMS - January 25, 2008

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you all for your earnest prayers and action in behalf of Cam particularly these last couple of days. Cam’s been is in an extremely dangerous part of his journey with his liver in deep distress. His GJ tube (feeding tube into his stomach) also tore away. We had that replaced this morning. The GI doctor who has been helping Cam since his diagnosis said after the new tube was placed… “by the grace of God the new tube was placed and fasten securely with even a deeper penetration of the J tube into his small intestine…”

Cam was then ushered to Radiology to see once again if there was any blockages of the liver drainage system that could be unobstructed. The Interventional Radiologist was able to place a larger catheter into Cam that created a higher volume of drainage from his hepatic biliary drainage system.

We now hope and pray that the bilirubin will start to move in a positive direction. Today the bilirubin was the same as it was on Wed….big blessing…it could have jumped higher! Other liver markers improved (Alk Phos, ALT, AST, Albumin, etc.) We now prayerfully and humble plead with the Master Physician that the bilirubin will follow the other markers in a positive direction.

Latest update on Cameron Williams, received Wednesday, January 16th:

Dear Family and Friends,

After the last update Cam received some additional challenges. He’s been in the hospital 5 times in the last 8 days. He’s been blessed to have an additional catheter placed into his liver to allow the other part of his liver to receive relief that the first catheter was not relieving. All the other times at the hospital had to do with a variety of issues, bless his heart, I will spare you the details. It seems that the Lord’s plan for Cam’s journey must have additional challenges. Each time Cam gets knocked down, some believing he cannot rise, he does. He struggles to stand and then puts one foot in front of the other.

The main challenges the last couple of weeks have to do with his liver functions. Cam’s liver has been full of debris (bilirubin) yet his liver functions have remained fairly strong with some of the most important liver indicators spiking up. Cam became very juntas a little over a week ago, so all hands have been on deck and around the clock work to help his liver become relieved. We gathered as a family last Saturday in the hospital with Cam knowing how serious the challenge was, yet as we prayed and talked and after Cam received a priesthood blessing, we all felt calm. We didn’t have any answers nor where there western medicine options available. Cam was also hit with a major infection again in right lung.

Today Cam received a mighty miracle from the Master Physician who with His touch granted Cam some relief of his liver debris and his blood results have confirmed this. Truly a miracle has been performed once again for Cam.

Cam “Iron Will”iams’ has covered a great part of his journey which has been formidable. He has, I’m quite sure, many more serious obstacles that he will face on his journey. He has been sustained by the love and support of family and friends. He is no doubt being carried by our Savior, who by the touch of his finger can heal Cam completely. We have faith that He will.

Thanks to all of you for your quiet support, love, acts of kindness in our behalf. We wouldn’t wish this upon anyone and yet we wouldn’t trade the precious, sacred opportunity to serve and support Cam.

Please know that we love and appreciate each and everyone of you more than you know. We look forward to the time we can take pause and express to each of you how we feel.

Ciao tutti,

We were gone for the holidays, spending Christmas in New Zealand with my mothers family and then New Years with my fathers family! It was wonderful seeing family and friends and taking 3 of our children (Ashley, Benjamin and Chelsea) to the land of my birth. They loved it and enjoyed meeting family. Ashley was amazed at how many family we have there! One nice thing is that they are just leaving spring with summer just around the corner, which was great. On our way home we spent a few days with friends (President & Sister Ardern) in Fiji, nice and hot there! Our friends, we'll he's the Mission President of the Fiji Suva Mission. Visiting with them brought back a lot of feelings and thoughts of our mission that we served with you! We are now home, so sorry for any of you who have written over the past little while! We hope you had a wonderful holiday time and HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!!

CAMERON WILLIAMS UPDATE - December 10, 2007

Dear Family and Friends,

Cam continues to climb his Mount Everest, sometimes facing sheer rock faces with no apparent way to move forward and yet other times he is provided a reprieve. As he puts one foot in front of the other, he has the strength of so many of you supporting his back side and praying to keep the multitude of foes that are attacking his body and spirit at bay, but most importantly he has his Infinite Partner, Jesus Christ, walking along side him, carrying his burden, giving him encouragement and enabling Cam beyond our mortal comprehension.

This week Cam faced a few new “rock faces” by losing his Grandfather, Kay Williams, (Cam’s the oldest Grandson) on Monday to a Cardiac Arrest due to a massive staff infection. He left quickly and with little suffering. Cam’s Grandpa would have been the first one to volunteer to move from this mortality to the next estate in order to help Cam in any way that we don’t understand, yet we certainly feel.

Wednesday morning Cam had another “rock face” to conquer as his heart rate soared to 191 and his oxygen dropped to the high 70’s in a matter of minutes. We are grateful for the speed of the paramedics in arriving at our home. While Cam was in the hospital some very positive things happened. Before anything was administered in ER, his temperature started to fall and he became stabilized. Cam’s chest catheter in his left side was removed and a new catheter was placed in his right side where fluid had built up suppressing his lung from expanding.

Cam was diagnosed once again with multiple high grade infections in his blood, in his old “pick line” and in his pleural cavity. Thus, a new double lumen pick line was placed in his right arm. Cam’s said that he is going for the record of the most tubes hanging out his body. The next morning Cam’s stomach “G Tube” had a smaller “J tube” inserted that runs through the G tube, but instead of stopping at the stomach wall, it runs down approximately 6 inches in the small intestine. This will allow Cam to try and hold down some juices through this new J tube, without immediately hitting his stomach and then being rejected back up and out his mouth. Cam continues to receive the majority of his caloric intake through his veins called (TPN) Total Parenteral Nutrition and when continues to go to daily immune strengthening therapy….when he isn’t in the hospital.

While receiving the J tube, new pictures of his stomach were taken of the bottom of the esophagus and bottom of the stomach showing more “normal” tissue being formed. We give all the credit to a Merciful God of Miracles for any and all improvements.

Each day that Cam is with us is nothing short of a miracle. It is a sacred and a holy experience for us to participate in his trek and continue to have confidence in his full recovery and are behaving as if he is already healed and have no doubt that he will be according to the Lord’s time table. Yet we remain watchful and provide around the clock care because at any moment, Cam’s body can surprise us and we can have another adventure.

Cam turned 25 today and we are particularly grateful that he has made it to this milestone and know that he will make it to many more.

What a journey….One that we would not wish upon anyone and yet would not trade for.

CAMERON WILLIAMS UPDATE

Dear Family and Friends,

The last two weeks have been full of events that continue to show forth the mighty hand of God as Cam continues to face a sophisticated enemy on multiple fronts.

Cam is currently in the hospital after being brought to ER on Tuesday evening. Tuesday at around 5 p.m., Cam’s heart rate shot up to 160 and his oxygen went down to 70. If he had not had someone with him, he would have not had sufficient oxygen to survive. We were able to get him to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and somewhat stabilized. The following morning, Cam had a catheter (chest tube) inserted into the pleural cavity to drain the fluid (full of high grade infection) and air that had gathered, most likely caused from a thoracentesis that was performed early Tuesday morning (it is a risk we run to go after the fluid). Since the placement of the catheter he has had most of the fluid and air removed; however, the part of the lung that should fill that space is contaminated and won’t inflate right now. We will expect another miracle to be administered to fix the lung.

9 days ago, Cam had to have his feeding tube (G tube) fixed and new pictures were taken through endoscopy that showed “normal tissue” at the bottom half of his stomach where the same spots a month earlier were riddled with cancer….Big miracle! Also, he has been able to accept food (juices – apple/carrot, greens) without his body rejecting them….Big Miracle!

Cam has continued to loss weight, but still has good strength and his mental alertness and attitude is undaunted. Some of Cam’s new nicknames are “Iron Will(iams)”, “Braveheart” and “Miracle Man.”

With this new attack upon his lungs we need heaven’s help and the continued goodness, concern, prayers and faith of everyone that we can enlist.

We know that everyday that Cam continues his journey is a miracle and we are expecting more of them. We believe that we should, “….act as though you have already received them [blessings].” We see Cam as fully healed, playing soccer, going to school, having a family and being a tremendous influence for good.

We are continually awed and grateful as to the lessons we are experiencing and hopefully learning from them. We are also indebted to you for your efforts in behalf of Cam in participating in all the cool events and for your generosities. We are completely humbled at the out pouring of love in behalf of Cam and our family. Words can only express the smallest part of the love and gratitude we feel toward all of you.

We hope to bring Cam home tomorrow and that his oxygen uptake continues and his heart rate normalizes.

CAMERON WILLIAMS UPDATE - November 18, 2007

Dear Family and Friends,

The last 10 days have been in a nutshell “steps forward with fewer steps backward!” We are full of awe, gratitude and excitement.

Cam continues to work around the clock with physical, mental and an iron will beyond his own. We have felt and seen the power of God in very specific ways that are too sacred to share. I’m sure that one day Cam will want to share some of these as he sees fit for they are a testament to all that we have a God of Miracles and He hears and answers prayers.

Since the last email when a good doctor replaced a damage GJ tube, Cam has had to fight the infection from several fronts while battling the cancer. From the gastric acid that poured into his abdominal cavity from the area of his stomach where the old GJ tube had ripped; from the pneumonia and from the pleura cavity that had become infected. Three times infection has been pulled out of his back (thoracentesis) starting from 1 liter, the third time yielded a little over 1/2 a liter. Yesterday there was none evident (big positive!). With the destruction of tumors, blood is lost and therefore Cam has required two more blood transfusions.

Even though many moments have been touch and go as Cam walks “through the valley of the shadow of death, [Cam] has feared no evil”, for God and many Angels both in this world and from God’s presence, have been with him. Cam truly has had a “rod and a staff [to] comfort [him]…. [Cam’s] head has been [anointed] with oil (many times) and his cup runneth over. We have full faith and belief that “goodness and mercy shall follow [Cam] all the days of [his] life…” and that he will be restored to his full physical strength with the added blessing of the wisdom and learning’s that come from this amazing journey.

We see small evidences that Cam’s physical strength is being restored. No weight has been added, but weight depletion has level off.

Some of the miracles that we wish to give all the credit to God for guiding the minds and hands of professionals are:

1. Pneumonia is gone or close to.
2. Pleura fluid (pleurisies) has diminished or is over. Yesterday was the last ultra sound to look for any fluid…none!
3. The asides (weeping) into his abdominal cavity has not occurred for at last the last 10 days. Ultra Sound Technicians have checked to pull some off several occasions. None found!
4. Edema in his legs have fully diminished.
5. Chunks of tumor have continued to be ejected through vomiting, his GJ tube and the bowels
6. Cam yesterday began to attempt to hold down through his mouth 1-2 tablespoons every 20 minutes some fresh carrot/apple strained juice along with some “greens.” Doing pretty good, holding some of it down, rejected the rest while his entire gastric track becomes acquainted with food again. He has gone for nearly 6 weeks without holding down but very few fluids or any type of mild juiced or puréed foods.
7. Cam is still on oxygen, but his lungs are getting stronger.
8. His coloring is beautiful and his alertness is sharp and keen as ever.

Although Cam’s days seem to him much of the same and he wants to “get on with it….” We love this attitude for he is starting take control of his body and as Lindsey said, “Cam, your mind is your medicine.”

We understand to the degree we can, that Cam’s life is very fragile, yet we feel strengthened, enthusiastic and joyful with each positive step forward. Cam has not accepted the prognosis of so many professionals (two separate hospital ER’s) telling him as recently as two weekends ago that, “…your son has less than 48 hours to live…make your plans for his death….” Gratefully, I am sitting beside a very much alive Cameron.

We continue to be humbled by the blessings of life that we receive each day from the hands of our children, extended family and our great friends, but most importantly from our All Knowing, All Loving, God of Miracles.

We would like to share a few things about Cameron with you. Cameron is an inspiration to many people. He has influenced people for good from Italy, to Canada, from California to Utah. As one person said, “Cam’s arms reach very far….” He is one of the most positive, spiritual and good people you will ever meet. He is 24 years old and currently a student at BYU, although he has had to postpone school this semester. He has always been an incredible athlete, loves to cook and loves helping others. A four-year high school friend of Cam said, “Cam is the only person I knew in high school that always stood up for what he believes….” Cam is commonly referred to as “hard-working”, “a finisher”, “a friend to those who needed one,” “obedient and honest,” “willing to give anything he had to his friends and family,” “a person of great faith and optimism,” “someone that you could count on”. To his family he is a pillar of strength, leadership and righteousness and most importantly he is deeply loved by his family and that is why his siblings have taken upon themselves a way to serve him and to give a little back to him as he fights truly the battle of and for his life.

Cameron started to have various physical symptoms over a year ago and after countless studies, scans, with an added challenge along the way of tearing his ACL and meniscus, finally was diagnosed with Gastric Cancer or cancer of the stomach. Physicians had not been looking for cancer because Cam is the youngest, at least in the State of Utah, to have this type of cancer and this cancer is very rare. The average age of victims with this cancer is 71 years old. The first visual indicator took place during another endoscopy that located a tumor (adenoma carcinoma) just below his esophagus in the stomach in mid July. A week later an additional endoscopy-ultra sound discovered that his entire stomach was full of the cancer and that it had likely spread into the abdominal cavity.

The only known western medicine procedure at this point was to surgically remove his entire stomach and parts of some other organs, followed by intensive chemo and radiation therapy, yet when Cam was opened up, the surgeon closed him back up and said that there is nothing he could do, the cancer is everywhere. He said, “Cam’s abdominal cavity is like someone took a can of white paint and sprayed it all over everything and on every organ that he could see including up his back. Since this day, Cam has fallen outside known western medicine procedures and protocols and was sent home. Chapter closed!

Obviously this killer inside Cameron didn’t know who it was dealing with. Cameron is a fighter and is convinced that he is going to beat this, but he needs your help. After investigating, meeting with many who have various homeopathic processes, herbs, machines, etc. Cam and his family have found a Naturopathic M.D. who has a private clinic specializing in IV Immunization therapy. This modality has treated and cured many types of cancers, virals, and terminal diseases. His family has felt inspired that this is what needs to be done for him. Once his immune system can be strengthened, Chemo therapy is likely to be the only way to kill the cancer cells. He will be getting treatments directly through an IV line 4 times per week for approximately 6 hours per day, which will bypass his stomach and give his immune system the building blocks with all the cancer fighting agents that he can take in order to defeat this enemy
When Cam first found out he had this rare cancer that had spread throughout his stomach he said, “….this is just a bump in the road, give me three months and I’ll be back…” When the surgeon opened him up and said there is nothing that can be done, Cam said, “at least I’ll still have my stomach when I’m healed…”

Wherever Cam has gone, from hospital to recovery, from scans and probes, while being violently sick, he has maintained his optimism, humor, concern for others. He has faced this killer and looked it straight in the eye with the same determination that has made him the type of person that so many people admire.

Cameron believes in miracles and knows that he must do all that he can in pursuit of his miracle. Cam’s approach continues to affect many hundreds if not thousands of people directly and indirectly. He is not bitter, blameful, or asking, “why me?” As one physician said, “Cameron you are a diamond, you will never brake that is why you can take a lot of pounding in order to become even more precious….”

I just posted the details about the next fundraiser this Monday. Please read! PS. Cam had a much better weekend than the last. Things are still rollercoastering, but overall getting better. He's not as nauseated anymore, his back pain has decreased tremendously, his skin color is perfect and he has a lot more strength and energy then he's had in weeks! Togetherwecam!!!

CAMERON WILLIAMS UPDATE

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you all for your love, prayers, faith, support and encouragement, etc. etc.

The last 10 days has been a life time worth of learning experiences. I apologize for not providing an update sooner, I just thought Cam’s challenges would at least level out by now, but they just went into hyper drive. I will try to give you a brief overview.

To start with, the last 4 days (Sat. through now) – Saturday, Cam was receiving IV therapy when he went into severe cramps in his rib cage that sent him to the hospital by ambulance. He had contracted pneumonia and pleurisies. Two hospitals ER’s later lasting through the night we arrived back at therapy Sunday to keep Cam’s homeostasis and immunity system stable. Sunday evening Cam started to internally bleed, back to another hospital ER for a blood transfusion through the night. Monday morning from ER to IV therapy and by 3 p.m. Cam’s feeding tube (GJ – Gastric Jejunum) had stopped working and his abdominal cavity started to fill with fluids that then started to run around the outside of his GJ tube at a rate of soaking up hand towels every couple of minutes. Sunday night Cam was taken ambulatory to the hospital to find out what was happening. After four scans through the night it was determined that the staples attaching his stomach to his abdominal wall had come undone causing his stomach to dump the acids directly into his abdomen, mixed with the ascites that was already “weeping” from his organs and vessels. A few hours ago a new GJ tube was successfully placed and the immediate problem is over.

Now the fight is on with the infection in his abdomen, along with his pneumonia, pleurisies and oh yeah, some cancer.

Cam’s “normal” day is 7-11. Includes IV therapy, paracentesis, thoracentesis, TPN, Antibiotics, homeopathic protocols, IHC home care protocols, etc. etc. I can’t keep Cam’s pace and yet he faces each day with termination, fortitude and an optimistic attitude.

Cam has been faced with several Goliaths and yet each time one comes the Lord places in his sling a little pebble that slays that Goliath. Each time someone turns us away, or can’t find an answer, we are shown another door to go through that contains the answer to the immediate situation.

I could back up and tell you more that happened just prior to the last 72 hours, but I am getting windy and Cam says that I should be done by now.

The bottom line is that we are strengthened each time Cam faces his opponents and rejoice in each day we have with him. These last 10 days have been the most difficult, yet the most sacred and precious that we have ever had and we are pretty sure there are many more ahead. We hope to be learning from this privileged circumstance our family has been provided. Our children have been incredible in ways that are so tender and so needed. Cam teaches us lessons each day. We are humbled by your service and generosities. Time has warped into a moment by moment, hour by hour trek. We don’t know how long it will last, but we do know that we are sustained by our All Knowing Creator and His Will is what matters and it nets down to what He has in mind for Cam. It’s between Cam and Him. We give all the credit to the God’s mercy and grace for allowing us to have the joy of being with Cam. Together We CAM!

It's been a very tough weekend, with fluctuated pain, emotions and only a few hours of sleep for Cam and the family. Cameron's been in and out of 3 hospitals 4 times these past few days. He was in the most critical condition on Sunday evening, with very little hope because he was having much blood leak out of his feeding tube. Luckily, this bleeding finally stopped and he was omitted to the Utah Valley hospital that evening to have another blood transfusion. He received a good amount to have his energy increase and for his blood and skin color to start circulating again. Cameron's feeding tube has seemed to cause some problems since received about a week ago, but has also been his relief when he becomes nauseated because rather than vomiting he can open up this tube to release the pressure and he can feel a bit better for a short time. Yesterday his feeding tube stopped draining properly and instead started leaking around his incision. He was taken down to Utah Valley again via ambulance and has had some x-rays, 4 ct scans, and some die into his stomach. The x-rays came bake showing that his feeding tube was still working properly and that it must be another situation of why he's leaking around the incision. We're waiting for the doctor to come talk the results as I'm writing this.It's been a very up and down weekend, very emotional, but also very dedicated to continue to fight this rough battle Cameron and we're all going through. Cam's attitude has continued to be great, and he still says, "No matter what, it's still in the Lord's hands" he's right and our family will continue to fight until we have the impression otherwise. It's been an intense roller coaster ride and we can only pray it'll decrease soon.Thank you for all your prayers, fasting, thoughts that have been with Cameron and our family. I ask in this critical time to continue your support to the fullest of your ability. I hope to update soon with better news...with love, Lindsey

Sorella Fazio is very pleased I am sure,

by all her friends and family who came to

show their love for her and by the beautiful words shared!

Sorella Fazio is the mother of Santa Smith and Flora Lotito. Sorella Fazio is from Bari, Italy, but lived in Provo, Utah as well as South Jordan, Utah, for many years. She spent a lot of time working in the Provo Temple as well as the Jordan River Temple. For those of you who knew Sorella Fazio, we wanted to share this with you:

Her daughter Santa wrote on October 22, 2007:

Dear Friends,

My Mother Sorella Fazio passed away peacefully surrounded by family two days ago near Bari, Italy – she had been affected by lung cancer which was discovered in June. She had been bed ridden since August and faced her terminal illness with fortitude. A funeral was held today (Saturday October 20, 2007-Bari, Italy). Her wish was to be buried next to her beloved Francesco in the Provo, Utah Cemetery.

We are still trying to figure out some logistical details dealing with the transport of her remains overseas. We are tentatively going to hold a gravesite ceremony and dedication on Friday afternoon October 26 at the Provo UT Cemetery. We will communicate more detailed plans as soon as we work out the logistical problems.

We ask that you don’t send flowers. If you wish you could make a donation to offset the significant costs of transporting her body from Bari to Provo or just make a donation to a charity of your choice in her name.

I wrote a little piece about my mom that was read at her funeral. Please circulate the news to all the returned missionaries and friends that knew her.

E' un piacere per me avere l'opportunita' di esprimere alcuni pensieri riguardo a mia madre. Secondo me mia madre puo' essere descritta come una donna di gran coraggio e profonde passioni. Questi aspetti del suo carattere hanno influenzato la mia vita in un modo generalmente positivo. Da quando era bambina mamma ebbe un gran desiderio di imparare. Le piaceva molto andare a scuola e voleva diventare maestra. Il periodo del dopo-guerra in Italia e la posizione socio-economica della sua famiglia le impedirono di realizzare il suo sogno di continuare gli studi. Anche se fu molto rattristata da tali circostanze, non lascio' che il suo desiderio di imparare si spegnasse. Da se' stessa coltivo' e nutri' diversi interessi. Le piaceva molto leggere e quando trovava libri ed articoli che la interessavano, leggeva avidamente le informazioni e le registrava nella sua memoria. Alcuni dei suoi interessi erano l'astronomia, la religione, la musica, le arti, il cucito e piu' tardi la geneologia, l'immagazzinamento del cibo ed il tempio. Il suo esempio inculco' in noi figli una brama di imparare e ci sprono' a coltivare le nostre passioni e talenti. Da quando ero piccola, vedevo spesso in giro libri di astronomia-articoli su nuove scoperte di stelle, pianeti, galassie e costellazioni. A mamma piaceva molto contemplare la maestosita' del cielo notturno e collegava tutto questo alla grandezza di Dio. Lei aveva tanto desiderio di leggere la Bibbia e ne acquisi' una copia appena fu disponibile in Italiano. Lei lesse tutto il Vecchio ed il Nuovo Testamento e ci parlo' spesso delle dottrine ed insegnamenti che imparava. Il suo amore per la musica ha influenzato molto la mia vita. Mi ricordo che lei ascoltava spesso la musica classica, operistica e le piacevano anche le canzoni napoletane. In casa cantava arie operistiche, leggeva i libretti ed anche la vita dei compositori. Amava tutte le arti in generale e ci incito' a nutrire le nostre capacita' artistiche. Le piaceva anche cucire moltissimo. Mi ricordo fili di cotone e pezzettini di stoffa ovunque in casa. Quasi tutti i nostri vestiti furono disegnati e cuciti da lei. Il suo gran coraggio fu dimostrato quando, in circostanze estremamente difficili, abbraccio' con tutto il suo cuore una nuova religione. I sono molto grata per la sua grande dedicazione. Sono anche infinitamente grata per la guida spirituale che ho ricevuto che mi aiutata ad essere forte nelle mie convinzioni. Con mio padre al suo fianco hanno formato una forte unione. Insieme lasciano un esempio indelebile di amore, obbedienza, servizio verso il prossimo, sacrificio ed ospitalita'. Mentre mia figlia Erica ed io eravamo il Italia con mamma, le sentimmo comunicare con gente dall'altra parte del velo. Una volta le chiedemmo se avesse visto babbo. Lei rispose positivamente. Poi le chiedemmo quale fu il messaggio che babbo ci mandava. Lei rispose che c'era qualcuno li' che ascoltava le nostre preghiere. Poi ci disse che il suo desiderio era che la sua posterita' fosse protetta nella luce del Vangelo. Il mio diletto padre lascio' un grande vuoto nella mia vita undici anni fa. Adesso c'e' un altro vuoto. Il mio desiderio e speranza e' che il retaggio dei miei genitori continuera' per generazioni e che la loro posterita' potra' emulare il loro coraggio e rettitudine.

Mamma e la Focaccia,

Quando penso a mamma non posso fare a meno di pensare anche alla focaccia. "La focaccia?!" Vi chiederete. Ebbene si la focaccia! Pensateci un po, e chiedetevi questa domanda: chi di voi non ha assaggiato la focaccia di Sorella Fazio? Se facessimo il censimento delle persone presenti qui, una gran parte delle persone alzerebbe la mano ad indicare che ha mangiato la focaccia o qualche altra cosa che mamma ha preparato e condiviso (pasta al forno, lasagna, pizza, biscotti, eccetera eccetera). La focaccia e' un simbolo della generosita' e disponibilita' a condividere di mamma.

Una cosa e' sicura, se entravi affamato a casa Fazio - se c'era lei ne uscivi pieno e a volte strapieno. Mamma era cosi con tutto - se aveva qualcosa e incontrava qualcuno che ne aveva bisogno - non ci pensava due volte a condividerla. Questa generosita mi ricordo gli era stata inculcata da suo padre "nonno Gennaro". L'esperienza della guerra e del dopoguerra hanno anche contribuito allo sviluppo di questa caratteristica Cristiana condivisa nella famiglia Pierro. Questa generosita' si e' magnificata quando mamma ha incontrato la chiesa e si e' ritrovata con una famiglia ingrandita di sorelle e fratelli nel vangelo.

Allora vi rendete conto che quando mamma faceva la focaccia non era per dar da mangiare solo alla famiglia ma anche al vicinato, ai giovani, ai poveri, a tutti coloro che avevano bisogno di sentirsi amati tramite il piccolo gesto della focaccia. Cosi a Mariotto ho avuto spesso l'incarico di distribuire la focaccia ai vicini - e se il destinatario era piu lontano (Bari, Barletta, Bitonto, Terlizzi) allora lei coscriveva mio padre al trasporto dei beni gustosi.

Quand'ero giovane focaccia e pizze a Bari o a Mariotto erano di regola e tante persone (specialmente giovani) hanno ricevuto quella bella accoglienza caratteristica di mamma - hanno trovato in mia madre e nella simbolica focaccia Fazio la ristorazione non solo della fame fisica ma anche della fame spirituale e affettiva.

Capite adesso perche' quando penso a mia madre penso alla focaccia - capite perche per onorare la sua memoria anche noi dobbiamo essere disposti a continuare la tradizione di cucinare e condividere la focaccia.

Sono dispiaciuto di non essere li in persona e spero che comunque sentiate il mio affetto.

UPDATE ON CAM:Excuse me for this is to the best of my knowledge and terminology, I apologize if it doesn’t make the most logical sense.On Thursday (Oct. 18th) Cam was omitted to the LDS Hospital for an emergency procedure to take place. This procedure’s reason was to unclog the ducts that were causing blockage for his biliruben to work properly and therefore Cam’s skin started to turn quit jontus and his eating habits were not increasing for the best. Friday morning monoscopy practiced this procedure without great success because his tumor has grown significantly. However, there was another way for radiology to make this correct. The next morning (Sat) he was successfully released from radiology with nothing but good news that the procedure had gone well and better than the doctors had belief to expect. Cam now has a tube that drains into a bag every few hours, of junk that his body no longer needs. While at the hospital his pain continued to increase and he was wanting nothing more than to continue taking morphine and dilloted (a drug 10x stronger than morphine), both which would take away his pain but only for a short amount of time. Cameron was not able to drink even a teaspoon of water without throwing up immediately. It only took our doctor and my parents a short while to realize that Cam had never been in this much pain before his procedure and that it’ll only get worse if we continued to just ease the pain. The hospital released Cam on Tuesday and we took him directly to our doctor that has other medical knowledge and beliefs. Within a few hours of shots and treatments, Cam’s pain had completely gone away; he was no longer consistently taking drugs and had drunken 6-8 glasses of water that day with holding most of it down.Thursday (25th) Cam received a blood transfusion of which also went very successful. Cam’s blood is taken every morning and that way we’re able to see the great results that come back every day including his biliruben to continue to go down. His blood levels and markers are so great, except his white blood count of which is fluctuating because of an infection caused by switching his pik line from one arm to the other. Our doctor was heard saying “his blood is better than mine!”Cameron has not felt much better, but in our eyes his skin, energy and attitude continue to be great and on the way to kill this evil.We thank guides, friends, neighbors and all of you that have been a great support in the road we’ve chosen to take. We have no doubt this will be fought be our desires inside, it’s just a matter of time that Cam will be out on the soccer field again playing around with his friends.Much love,Lindsey

Cameron's update

Dear Family and Friends,

"Together We CAM" is certainly having positive affects as Cam continues to have new hurdles to overcome each hour of every day. Please know that I am doing my best to understand the medical jargon and please forgive me, especially those who understand the proper terminology and spelling, for my ineptness as I'm trying to capture and understand on the fly from people who are very busy.
As Cam's blood has improved in many ways, his bilirubin, due to the probability of his liver and pancreatic ducts obstruction, has continued to alarmingly rise and has caused increased nausea and his inability to hold down solids and liquids. He has been on TPN (total parenteral nutrition) which is the practice of feeding Cam intravenously, bypassing he usual process of eating and digestion for 9 days. TPN is hard on the system on long.

As the bilirubin has skyrocketed we knew there was an obstruction. We found a physician to order a MRCP (Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography) which is a medical imaging technique which uses magnetic resonance imaging to visualize the biliary and pancreatic ducts in a non-invasive (outside the body) manner. Compared to an ERCP (Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) is a technique that combines the use of endoscopy and fluoroscopy to diagnose and treat certain problems of the biliary or pancreatic ductal systems. It is an x-ray examination of the bile ducts which is aided by a video endoscope. Through the endoscope, the physician can see the inside of the stomach and duodenum, and inject dyes into the ducts in the biliary tree and pancreas so they can be seen on x rays.

As we were able to obtain the order to receive an MRCP on Thursday, we thankfully received the results of the exam back that afternoon. The MRCP showed a high grade of bile obstruction, both located in the common bile duct that sends the toxins from the liver and pancreas down into the small intestine. The great news that the MRCP said is, "ERCP and stenting recommended as clinically warranted." Without the availably of a Gastrointestinal Specialist to help in Utah Valley Thursday night and with Cam vomiting without pause, I took him to LDS emergency room praying that they would take him. I know that there are politicals and "turfing" that takes place between hospitals and the two counties, I knew we needed hearts soften because the LDS hospital has access to all the records for Cam. As Heaven soften hearts and with Cam's serious condition he was readily admitted and the head G.I. physician made room for Cam on Friday (even though he was totally booked) to perform an ERCP with a scope that has the ability to push a "stent" into the closed areas of the ducts. The doctor was able to get through the stomach and up through the common bile duct but was NOT able to get around the tumors in the duct. As Cam said, "no surprise because each time I wake up from a procedure at the hospital it has not been good news."

With the failure to stent the bile ducts, the G.I. physician immediately arranged for an Interventionalist Radiologist to insert through the side of his body and place a catheter from the top down through the liver ducts and down through the common bile duct. The GREAT NEWS is that this procedure was successful, placing an internal/external biliary drainage. Meaning the internal catheter drains into his small intestine in a normal way and that the external catheter will expedite the process and we hope to have it "capped off" tomorrow. This was the first time Cam has woken up to some positive news. The bilirubin in 18 hours has dropped from 6.9 to 3.5 and we anticipate it to fall to under 2.5 or lower by morning. 1.5 is normal. He has some infections that will keep him in the hospital a while longer.

If all goes well, Cam will start a recipe of Chemo treatments perhaps as early as Tuesday and the treatment will be once every 21 days with another component of the chemo taken orally or by pump every day. Meanwhile, we will work on his immune system and overall homeostasis between treatments. Cam will have all of our treatments provided every day in Salt Lake and feel blessed to have a group of physicians that will take Cam on and help him have the best possible odds for survival.

Cam meanwhile is in good spirits, although he is fatigued and sick and tired of being sick and tired. He will use this toward working on getting out of this condition as soon as possible.

We are blessed more than we can imagine. Good people/professionals continue to come into our lives at the very moment of needs. We continue to use all resources possible from western, naturopathic, homeopathic and eastern medicine practices.

We are full of gratitude for each and every moment that we have to enjoy this growth experience with Cam. We pray for and expect for full and complete restoration of Cam's health. Many miracles have taken place and many more will be needed.

We are so grateful to have a knowledge and a solid belief that our Father in Heaven is a God of Miracles and we understand that He can take Cam at any moment in all sorts of ways and we also know that he can cure Cam at any moment in all sorts of ways. It is His Will that we revere and accept….after we have done everything we can. We are optimistic and full of hope and will not stop until this journey is over no matter the outcome.

FUNDRAISER

From Cameron's sister:

Hello everybody! This is Amber Bauerle, Cameron’s older sister. You have probably read my Dad’s email that he sent out last night updating you on Cam’s situation. I first of all want to thank each and every one of you for the love and support that you have shown for my family, this is definitely been the hardest thing that myself or any of my family member’s have ever gone through, and I know that your love and support has helped in so many ways.

This new treatment that Cam is getting is truly what he is going to need to help fight this terrible disease. We felt that it was inspired that we were lead to meet with this doctor. A couple of weeks ago on one particular night I was extremely restless thinking about Cam’s situation, I was on the internet searching and searching for an answer, I didn’t really know what I was looking for, but I felt that there was something else that we were supposed to be doing that we hadn’t done yet. I was in tears and frustrated with not being able to find whatever it was that I was looking for. It was 9:30 p.m. and as I was still searching on the internet when a knock came at my door and it was my Visiting Teachers, I immediately thought it was odd that they would come over so late without any notice, but know now that they were inspired to come that night. After a short conversation one of them started telling me about this Doctor and told me we needed to get Cameron in there immediately, she said if she had cancer she would be at this Doctor’s door step the next morning. People travel all over the world to meet with this Doctor and coincidently she’s 5 minutes from where Dave and I live in Centerville, so Cam if needed can spend some nights at our home as he’s going through treatment.

As soon as they left, I can’t describe to you the peaceful feeling I had. Of course the next morning we called the Doctor’s office to get Cameron in there. Also, something else that I thought was really special, when Cam was getting his first treatment there yesterday, there was another young man getting treatment that had been sent home to die and was 105 pounds when he started getting his treatments there, it was his last hope and he is now 195 pounds and finishing up his last treatments, healthy and strong. When my parents and Cam asked who referred him to the clinic, he told them that President Boyd K. Packer did. I liked hearing this because, that proves to me that even though faith and prayer is the key ingredient to heal Cam we still need to do everything we possibly can in addition to that.

I share that story with you to let you know, that we truly believe that this is what Cam’s needs to be doing right now. Now, this leads me to ask for your help. What my Dad’s email didn’t mention yesterday is that these treatments are a minimum of $3500 every week! It is extremely expensive and insurance will not help with those fees. I am heading up a fundraising effort to be able to allow Cam to continue these treatments – I will do everything and anything necessary to raise funds to pay for this. My siblings and I have already started to put a couple of benefit concerts together (one possibly with Peter Breinholt, who will to donate his time in Cam’s behalf), cook books, etc. I will email you with more details regarding the individual fundraisers.

This first email is to ask two things of you – number one, if you are able to, to donate to Cameron for these treatments, any donation no matter what the size would be greatly appreciated. And number two, I am going to be putting a fundraising committee together to support this cause, Cam could be in treatment for even a year or so, which of course could be around $200,000 for the first year, I am confident that if we put our heads together we can come up with ideas that can pay for these treatments for Cam. I want to hold a meeting for next Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Fishbowl Inventory, 580 East Technology Ave., Building C, Suite 2500, Orem (call me if you need directions, this is in the Novell Business Park Campus). The purpose of this meeting will be to brainstorm and put some fundraising ideas together. I would like to get a count of people that could come participate in this meeting, so if you would like to be apart of this, please call my cell phone at 801.597.2064 or email me back as soon as possible. We also are already taking orders for recipe books that we are selling that my Mom and Cam have spent the past 6 months putting together, the cost for these is $20 each, and I will send a follow up email with more information regarding them with an order form, etc. Even if you are not able to help financially right now, please come to this meeting with ideas. I am also working on a letter that we can have people take around to companies to ask for tax deductible donations, more of that will also be discussed at the meeting.

Upcoming fund raisers - Cameron's sister

Hello everybody! I again want to thank you all of you for your love and support.

I ordered 1,000 cookbooks last week that will be shipped to me on December 15th. We have sold about 300 so far – which is incredible, and we are so appreciative! There is still more that can be sold though, so if any of you can reach out to your friends, relatives, ward, etc. and pass out the flyers that are attached, I know we can get the rest of these sold!

Also, do any of you have a connection with a high-traffic store or area that we could set up a booth in front of the last 10 days before Christmas? I think we would be able to sell a lot of cookbooks just doing that. Please let me know if you have any ideas regarding that.

QUICK FUNDRAISER UPDATE: The Yard Sale this Saturday was a huge success, my sister Lindsey did an incredible job spearheading it! Also, Charisse and a couple of friends were at WhataWomanWantsShow in Logan (we got a free booth) all Friday and Saturday selling the cookbooks, necklaces that my Grandma has made and then taking donations – this also went very well and we are planning to be at the next one this coming weekend in Layton. KBYU is doing a short story on Cam, which is also going to help spread the word of our fundraising efforts. We are working on our website http://www.togetherwecam.org/ it is under construction right now, but should be up and running very soon. We have a benefit concert this Tuesday in downtown Provo that we are expecting about 200 UVSC students to attend and then also aggressively working on the High School Halloween dance. We also have the Cut-A-Thon coming up on November 5th and then a Polynesian Dance Concert November 12th (I think) and a Christmas Concert/Production November 24th.

UPDATE ON CAMERON

Hey everyone, i know it's been a while for an update. Just wanted to quickly say thanks to all those for all the help to raise funds thus far. Cam has been going to treatments for 5-6 days a week in SLC and is up there for 5-10 hours a day, and has been slowly improving in some results. Cam's blood count was at a healthy level, and because of that the cancer literally cannot grow anymore, which is very exciting news. Our biggest concern now is his liver and eating habits. We're trying new things and supposedly it'll help with his appetite and desire to eat. Cam continues to stay positive, and is extremely grateful for all the help and support of his family and friends. He's anxious to get things rolling so he can start eating his favorite lemon cream pie...I'll update again in a few days, thanks for all the generosity, thoughtfulness and help you've all been showing!
